Pros: It's a place to stay, it's close to the sports complex
Cons: unhelpful front desk staff, dated, not worth the money
The Bottom Line: Go someplace else. Service is very poor. Rooms are ok.

Our choir was taking a trip to Kansas City and booked the Adams Mark for our stay. We had booked about 20 rooms. Unfortunately, they were in the process of a management change, as the Adams mark was bought by Clarion. The hotel is now called the Clarion Sports Complex. (more about this later)
Arrival
We arrived pretty late at night, 12:30am, but since we pre-registered, we didn't need to "officially" check in. They handed us keys to our room but could only give us 1 key per room. Well, we'll get the second key for the roommate in the morning. Up to our room. The key doesn't work. Down to the front desk. The clerk is upset and it shows. We were able to get 2 keys now, and they both worked.
The Room
Step back into the 80's, as other reviewers have mentioned. The first thing I notice is that the mirrored bifold doors on the closet don't work well. You need to fuss with it to get them to open or shut. We eventually ended up leaving them open the rest of the stay. The furnishings and bed covers are straight from the mid 80's. That's ok because they work.
The bathtub looks like it came from the Jetsons cartoons. It is one of those molded plastic things, but everything is curved. There is virtually no place to set a bar of soap, or bottle of shampoo. It looks cool, futuristic retro.
The bed is ok and had clean linens. It was comfortable enough, but not quite firm enough for my tastes.
The Restaurant
I didn't eat at the restaurant, but others did. They all mentioned that the food was good, but it took quite a while to be served. Some reported that it took 45 minutes to get their food.
The breakfast buffet looked quite nice. But at $6.95 plus tax and tip, I chose to go somewhere else.
The Business Center
Didn't work. None of it. I brought my laptop along expecting to be able to hook up to the internet, as the brochures state. The whole business center didn't work. The computer they had was broken and the network didn't have outside access. I resorted to dial out from my room at a cost of $.75 per call (which was never mentioned anywhere).
Weight Room / Pool
I only briefly visited the weight room. It looked clean enough and had the typical work out machines, including exercise bicycles, treadmills, weight machine, a rower, and a stair climber. A few of the machines faced a single 20" tv and there was a convenient rest-room within the weight room itself.
There are 2 pools, one indoors, and one outdoors. I looked at the indoor one through the doors and could smell the chlorine. That's as close as I got to either pool.
Van Service
What a joke. The brochure says that they will drive you up to 15 miles. They changed it to 3 before we got there. We decided to try the van anyway. We asked the front desk staff to find out how long of a wait it would be for the van. They had no way of contacting the van driver. We waited 30 minutes and asked the driver to take us to a good rib joint. Fine. She said to call her on her cell phone when we were almost done and gave us her business card.
When we were done, we called. We called again. We left a vm. We sent a page. We walked. 1.5 miles back to the hotel.
The area
The hotel is in an average part of town. It is just across the freeway from the Sports Complex and one could definitely walk to it. There are almost no other establishments in the immediate area, except for 2 other hotels, a Dennys and a Taco Bell.
Checkout
Here is where the real story begins. We tried to check out the night before, but they couldn't take a credit card from us. Apparently since the hotel was reserved and a down payment was placed by our organization, they needed to charge the entire bill to the organization. This is even though they told us over the phone that we could pay each room with individual credit cards.
Fine. We'll deal with it in the morning.
Morning comes. After dealing with the inept front desk staff for more than 30 minutes about checkout, we decided to just use the organization credit card and have bill separately from there. Ok. As we board the bus, the manager comes running out and says that they can bill separately. Well, we are already on the bus and set to go.
We leave. Good bye.
Apparently the management change has left a lot to be desired. The change took place about 3 weeks before our arrival. But they didnt know how to bill, they didnt have the capability to fix the internet. I mean, how long does it take to fix an internet connection? At least most of the hotel is in ok shape.
If I ever go back to KC, I definitely wont be staying in this hotel. There are many others to choose from, most closer to downtown.
