| obe1k's Full Review: Griffin Technology ITRIP FM TRANSMITTER FOR NEW (4... |
This product seems to get many unwarranted negative reviews particularly about it's sound quality. I went ahead and purchased one along with my 4th Gen iPod anyway. I have to say that the sound quality is better than what I expected. It's not as good as a direct hook up (eg. audio cable), but it's just as good as an FM stereo radio station. (which is what you would expect anyway)
As long as I was within about 3 meters from the receiving radio, the sound quality was as good as FM radio. It worked great in the car - I hang the iPod near the dash A/C vents, and the antenna is on the front to the right side of the hood.
The frequency does not drift, but occasionally, if I touch the ipod or pick it up, some static is introduced but disappears after a few seconds.
Once the iTrip is tuned, you can delete the station song files off the iPod. If you keep the stations on the Pod, it will play them during song shuffle. This won't change the frequency of the iTrip but will play about 5 seconds of silence for each station. No problem unless you want to change stations regularly.
All in all, a great product as long as you don't expect audiophile sound quality
