Anti-Napster people are missing the point (Reply to this comment)
by matthewn
What many people fail to understand is that downloading music off Napster is no different than me recording a movie off HBO or TNT for that matter. The only thing that would be ILLEGAL, would be if I SOLD the stuff that I recorded.
It isn't a matter of the consumers being screwed out of their money in my opinion. It's the fact that if we can record something off TV, then why can't we be allowed to download songs off Napster?

The music company has done F all in stopping piracy .... its a joke!...im telling you. There are people (like me) who have hundreds of sources to get music. Music industry should invest in cd spindles and get some sales through that, hahah!

Sslabs, u seem to be on the RIAA's side 100-0. Isn't it somewhat appealing to be able to "steal" something and the chance of someone catching you is like a zillion to one.
Its like robbing a bank on Pluto, and there is no one there, and you will have the money guaranteed. Do you really think these artists deserve the amount of money that they get?
When I heard BSB's net profit from their latest album, I was ready to pull out a shotgun and go after them. The music industry is too greedy. They should have lowered prices if they were smart.
My two cents ..... *shrugs*. I see you shaking your head in disagreement, lol.
Dude, great opinion, i totally agree with you on the banner thingie. They should have gotten a whole bunch of advertisers on there.
Oh well...... back to mIRC.com

As usual. . . (Reply to this comment)

Another Napster piece that fails to get into the fact that the artists were getting screwed big time. Napster never should have been allowed to go on as long as it did. The worst thing to happen to music was Napster, the best thing to happen to Napster was it's slow death.
Yes the RIAA is greedy but that doesn't mean that you just take what you want for free. A new mustang costs a lot but you don't steal it because you think it costs too much.
Napster was theft pure and simple and the highest court in the land feels the same way. Yes the theft will continue but at least it won't happen on the same massive scale. I also don't believe in the listen before you buy thinking.
Can I see a movie or read a book before I buy it? Why is music so different? You can download free 30 second samples at Amazon.com but no one wants that because they want a free lunch, not samples.
My only regret about the whole deal is that nobody figured out how to launch a deadly MP3 virus for heavy Napster users.
Death to Napster and all those that steal music from the artists you all claim to love!

Go to www.musiccity.com and download Morpheus, a free file sharing program. It is set up quite similar to the Napster format and is easy to use. There is no middle man (Napster), you share files directly from computer user to computer user. I can say that I am not exactly a fan of metallica or eminem, you will never find them on my hard drive! I am more into hard to find classical and oldies music and contemporary christian bands. I put my own cd's on my hard drive and download others because I like to make my own mix of music. Happy burning!

RIAA (Reply to this comment)

Yes, RIAA bared their contempt for music lovers and artists with this one. They (and Metallica) blew a magnificent opportunity to take the enjoyment of music to a new level.
I'm not promoting violation of copyrights, just that RIAA showed they have only one aim - filling their own coffers. They've done a great disservice to music lovers and artists everywhere.

No.1 - piracy is a bad thing (that's for the previous comment mind) it take revenue away from artists and weakens the music market. plus it's just being a tight b@stard so don't do it.
No.2 - sure, not everyone had a burner, or even a high speed connection. but they will soon enough, and that's why the music companies acted when they did to stop this before it gets to the point of no reurn. I'll miss it, but I can see their point.

I agree that Napster's defeat is a blow to the future of legalized file sharing, but to tell you the truth, Napster sucks in comparison with other software programs and methods of sharing. Napster only opened up pirating to the eyes of millions -- which I must say is a great thing.
