Despite Preconcieved Notions
May 20 '01
The Bottom Line The Japanese artform of Manga in an animated form for television and movie syndication.
Despite preconcieved notions, that Anime or Japanimation, is merely for children because it is animation or that it is strictly for adults due to explicit sexuality is wrong. America is part of a wave that is spreading from Japan opening peoples eyes to the artforms known as Anime and Manga. Animated series in Japan are just as frequent on the television as live action t.v. In the subway stations, stacks of Manga (Japanese comics) are there for sale to the business commuters. The very distinctive Japanese style of drawing and animating has often been criticized for it's common use of extremely lare eyes and other exaggerated features on chracters. This in fact is a means of showing emotion through the characters other than it being expressed verbally: the eyes do tell as lot about what a person is feeling. Don't let other people steer you away, watch some Jap[animation today and judge for yourself, what these rich and diverse stories have to offer.
