| twenty3skidoo's Full Review: Orange Glo Wood Cleaner & Polish |
When my Aunt Lol was recently placed in a nursing home, her children (who live about a thousand miles from here) had to find something to do with 83 years worth of belongings in about 3 days... not an easy task. Many things they just donated to the Salvation Army, but one thing they did not want to get rid of was her hutch. It has been passed through the family for generations, and it is absolutely stunning. I was thrilled when they asked if I would take it, so that it would stay in the family.
When we brought it into the house, the first thing I noticed about it was what great condition it seemed to be in given its considerable age. I wondered what she had done to care for it to keep it looking so good. I needed look no farther than the bottom cabinet to discover her secret... Orange Glo!
1. What does it look like?
Unlike Pledge and many other wood cleaners, this product does not come in a spray can, but instead in a clear plastic spray bottle. I find that I like this better than the can, because it is easier to tell how much is left, but I also worry about it being less child-safe. It would take a while and some tricky maneuvering for a child to drink a can of Pledge, but this Orange Glo smells awfully yummy, and by simply twisting off the cap... I don't like to think about it. To be safe, ALWAYS KEEP THIS PRODUCT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN!!! The label says that it contains "Petroleum Distillates," which may be harmful or fatal if swallowed. Just be careful!
2. What can I clean with it?
You can clean any kind of wood with this product: furniture, wood paneling, cabinets, etc... You can also use it in the shower, and on countertops, vinyl, fiberglass, and ceramic tile. However, I have only ever personally used it to clean wood furniture, so I can't tell you how well it works on these other surfaces.
3. What does it do?
The label says that in addition to cleaning, polishing, and protecting your wood surfaces, it will remove grease, soap film, gum, and more. Unlike Pledge, Orange Glo leaves no icky film or waxy buildup. It makes that hutch shine like it is brand new, and covers small scratches. It also claims to protect against moisture and water marks and repel fingerprints and dust.
I'm not so sure about its ability to repel dust, though. I clean my hutch about once a week with this product, and it's usually not too bad after just one week, but whenever we go on vacation, or if I skip a week, I will find piles of dust waiting on me to come and clean them up... But I guess nothing can work miracles!
4. Does it really work?
Yes! It makes the wood on my hutch shine and... well... glow! If you have any wood furniture in your home, you will not regret buying this product. It will leave everything looking better than the day you bought it.
One warning: DO NOT USE THIS ON FLOORS Not even just a little. My daughter sprayed some of this on the floor the other day, and I almost broke my leg falling! Apparently the "Pure Orange Oil" used in Orange Glo is quite slippery!
5. What about the smell?
As should be obvious from its name, Orange Glo smells like oranges. I think it is a very pleasant smell. It mingles nicely with the vanilla air freshener I use in my home, and also smells delicious with the spicy scents I use in the fall and at Christmas time. While I love the smell, my husband absolutely hates it. He whines about it for about 10 minutes if I clean it too close to time for him to come home from work, so I have to use it in the morning. The smell fades out after a few hours, so that way he doesn't notice as much. But I still think it smells nice.
While I may have started using this product thanks to the "free sample" I received with my aunt's hutch, I keep buying it because it smells lovely, isn't terribly expensive (I think it's about 4 dollars at Wal-Mart), and works wonders on wood.
If you're looking for something to breathe a little new life into the wood in your home, then give Orange Glo a shot! Then you too can stand back, admire your hutch, and "Bask in the Glo!"
