Right on Target for Bridal Registry Purchases! Target.com assists with wedding day avoidance

We recently received a wedding invitation for the son of a family friend. Due to a prior commitment, we knew that attendance was unlikely. Which brought us to the discussion of what to get and how to deliver it. Actually it was my husband that questioned what to do, I knew I would explore online shopping possibilities. An invitation enclosure card stated that the couple was registered at Target, thus the reason for my review about Target.com.
Prior to this visit at the Target Online Store, I had browsed online, and -of course- purchased many items at the brick and mortar site. Upon arrival at Target.com I noticed the category that I wanted to go to was listed at the top: Gift Registries. The top portion of the home page also allows you to select from other options: gift cards, wish list, my account, store ad, and department shopping (Women, Men, Baby, Kids, Home, Furniture, Electronics, Sports, Toys, Entertainment). And, of course, if you scroll down there are tons of other options. However, as I mentioned, this shopping excursion was wedding registry related.
Prior to shopping I setup an account. I had the option of using the same email/account information as the Amazon account that I have or creating one that is exclusive to Target.com. This process was easy.
After setting up My Account I ventured over to Gift Registries. The page, as with others, was quick to load, offering two options: Baby or Club Wed. I entered the Grooms name (requires min. of first two letters), the event state (not required) and the event date (not required). A Search Results page quickly loaded -even with dial-up connection- and I was able to navigate to the proper registry. The couple had 106 items listed. This list showed a thumbnail graphic of the items (not yet fulfilled), quantity desired, quantity received, item number, price, and if it was available for purchase online. Unfortunately a majority of the items weren't available for purchase online, yet indicated they were available in store (approximately 3/4). However there were items in the price range we were aiming for (inexpensive - under $20.).
I added a candle set to my shopping cart and proceeded to checkout. Along the path of purchase I selected the gift wrapping and gift card option. Gift wrapping is $5.95 per item, gift cards are free. I was able to provide a personal greeting, 5-line limit. Soon after order completion, a confirmation email was received. When the order shipped, another email was received; "We thought you'd like to know that we shipped your gift today, and that this completes your order."
Shipping was $5.29 for the standard option, which stated a time frame of 3-7 days. The site allows you to have the purchase shipped to the groom or bride, showing you the name of the recipient and the city/state the order will ship to, but for privacy reasons doesn't show their full address. The order was placed two-weeks before the wedding. I phoned the parents, to vocalize our congrats with regard to the marriage and our regrets for non-attendance. She thanked us for the gift and stated how nice of an option that online shopping is - an option that apparently many had used. So, shipping was prompt!
Target Online Store accepts: Target Visa, Target Guest Card, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, GiftCards and e-GiftCards. I paid with VISA, charges to my card were accurate. Residents of Washington State, I was charged sales tax for this purchase, as there are Target storefronts in this state.
In addition to the Wedding Registry, target.com offers a variety of merchandise for men, women, children and the home. This merchant carries a lot of store brand items and certain labels such as: Hamilton Beach, Singer, Waverly and many more.
