| chus's Full Review: Samsung SGH-X426 |
I've had this phone (aka Samsung SGH-X427, x426 only if through ATT Wireless) for a few months now and have not been disappointed with my purchase in the least bit. I bought it at a "Technology Hut" for $30 dollars so long as I was migrating my current plan from TDMA to GSM service. I bought it for its size. The phone is very slim and light weighing in at about the same as a deck of cards or less (80g.). My old phone used to feel too large in my front pants pocket; this phone however can be comfortably kept not only in my front pants pocket, but also in a shirt pocket due to its unobtrusive size and weight. It is also a very attractive phone to carry. All silver construction, small external antennae with chrome accent at the tip. The second feature I was impressed with was the outstanding screen. It's got 65532 colors, and is a "UFB" screen standing for "ultra fine and bright" which is some crap that Samsung made up. The screen is fantastic though, very vivid, and bright. Indoors that is. Outdoors the display seems quite dim in broad daylight. This is a slight downfall of the "UFB" screen. Overall, though, the screen is better than most phones I've seen. Even Sony Ericsson camera phones. For those of you who enjoy being able to customize, you're limited to backgrounds and polyphonic ring tones, as "themes", text color, borders, etc. cannot be customized. Not a big deal. If you happen to have ATT mMode on your tele, you can download ring tones, games, apps, backgrounds etc. The phone comes with "mobile-chess" installed on it, which is by far the best game I've played on a mobile. According to Samsung, talk time is 5 hours, standby ~200 hours. It is less than this slightly, but those numbers are accurate. Audio quality of the phone is superb. With GSM the calls sound as good as a land line call. I'm not going to talk about the service. That varies per location. The menu system is simple and easy to use; a child could figure it out. Everything in the menus is cutesy and colorful, which I'm not a fan of really, but whatever. The benefits of this phone outweigh the downfalls by far, if you're looking for a SMALL flip phone. The only real down falls that I could think of are it's cuteness, the fact that the phone does not ring and vibrate simultaneously, it vibrates 3 times, then rings, just vibrates, or just rings. Also, the small rubber plug that covers the charger input is difficult to remove, yet easily lost.
