Alibris.com is a smaller scale online bookstore that sells new and used books. Certain users (predominately small bookstores) list books on the alibris websites and receive ratings from previous customers. Alibris also has some books in its own warehouse.
At times, the prices of alibris can be worth considering over those of more reputed websites such as amazon.com and the closing half.com. That said, I cannot say that the overall quality of alibris is on par with the standards of leading websites.
The selection in alibris is not very thorough as customers should not expect to find every single book they are looking for. In some cases, there is only one seller selling a certain book.
Alibris orders arrive in a timely fashion but not exceptionally fast. Do not expect their packages to arrive in the earlier days of the estimated intervals. I have bought from alibris a few times and generally receive the items late in the given interval.
The checkout in alibris is actually quite slow and I've had more than one time when I had to re-enter my order a few times. This problem is not persistent but rather occasional.
There was one incident when a seller delivered a broken book to me, which was totally off the described condition. Fortunately, the customer service in alibris promptly reimbursed the amount and paid for the shipping of the returned item.
In general, alibris offers a reasonable alternative for online book buying. However, I would not rely on it every single time as it has yet to develop into a fully dependable store.
