| Donnie013's Full Review: Old English Furniture Wipes |
While Im waiting to see where Hurricane Frances will touch land, I know its time to stock up on some cleaning items. Even though the massive winds are outside my home, youd be surprised to learn just how much dirt and dust actually blows inside.
Although dusting isnt my favorite household chore, it must be done especially under these horrendous conditions.
The biggest problem isnt really so much the dusting but what product to use.
Living in the southwest part of Florida (or any part of Florida, for that matter) means that you normally keep your air conditioning unit on 24/7. That alone can dry out your beautiful wood furniture.
Many Floridians have their laminated furniture that looks really nice and with that kind of furniture, you can usually just wipe them down a damp cloth and they look great. With wood, a wet cloth isnt the way to go.
After Hurricane Charley smashed into our area, my furniture really needed a good conditioning so I began reading labels in the store (still had no Internet at the time so checking online was out of the question).
Suddenly, I found exactly what I wanted. OLD ENGLISH FURNITURE WIPES!
For about $3.50, (a bit cheaper than the other brand names) these 7-1/2 x 10-1/2 sheets are the perfect answer to any dusting job. Whether it be your wood furniture, or laminated furniture, plastics leather, stainless or chrome, the PRE-MOISTENED sheets, will get all the dust every time without leaving your room smelling like a lemon forest. Yes, there is a slight scent of lemon but its far from overpowering.
One of the things I like about the OLD ENGLISH brand is the canister in which the wipes are contained. It not only keeps the sheets from drying out but it also keeps your cabinet clean. How many times have you gotten those wipes that come in the press-and-seal packets only to have the seal lose its glue and the wipes dry out or worse spill out and get that oily film all over everything? With OLD ENGLISH, that doesnt happen. With this canister, just pop the lid open, pull out one wipe and click it shut! Nothing could be easier.
Once you pull out your wipe, youre going to notice that its squashed not shriveled, but squashed tight. Thats to make all 25 WIPES fit in your canister. Just pull on each side to straighten it out and youre good to go.
While youre cleaning your wood furniture, youre also putting on a light oily conditioner to keep the wood from drying and splitting. While you CAN use these wipes on laminated plastic furniture, I dont because it leaves a light oily film and I just dont like the way it feels. But, thats MY opinion. These wipes CAN be used on many surfaces, some of which are: wood, leather, vinyl and stainless steel.
Actually, there arent many surfaces on which you cant use these wipes. Wood flooring is one such surface. Unless of course, you enjoy sliding and falling on your
well, lets just leave that one alone. Another finish is the Unfinished furniture. Remember, that while this stuff is GOOD on WOOD, its really dusting and conditioning the finish not the wood itself! Once you put this on unfinished wood, you wont be able to paint or varnish that piece of furniture. (Remember, also, these wipes are OILY.)
Speaking of being oily, you will have your usual precautions. Its an oily chemical youre dealing with so be sure to wash your hands with warm soapy water after each use. What you dont want to do is touch your face, eyes or food with hands that have just touched these wipes. If you do wipe your eyes, flush them immediately with cool water for about 15-minutes.
Secondly, while there is no real danger to inhalation, please dont use these in an unventilated area. Certain people with mild to moderate respiration problems might experience difficulty in breathing and or coughing. If that happens, get to fresh air as soon as possible.
Ordinarily, these wipes would not cause any skin irritation BUT, some people have sensitive skin. Dont take the chance to find out too late that you are among these people. WASH your hands immediately after using the wipes.
While I am certain that NO adult is stupid enough to eat these things, children and pets arent as knowledgeable YET. Lets face it
kids put EVERYTHING in their mouths and pets often chew everything in sight. If this happens, call poison control immediately. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING
.
Youre probably going to wonder now, are these things dangerous and if so, why buy them. Believe me, they ARE NOT DANGEROUS
They are a PLEASURE TO USE and even NICER TO SMELL. But, with anything that contains a chemical, you should always consider caution a priority.
I should have mentioned before when I was writing about the canister is another plus for its design. Since it is a canister and stands upright in your cabinet, it makes them so much easier to find opposed to the packets that lie flat and often get shoved to the back or end up with something placed on top of them.
These things are really great and they're made by the Reckitt Benckiser company in Wayne NJ.
Can you tell I really like these dusting clothes? Hey, come on
you get the cloth, the furniture polish and an easy way to store them. What more can you ask for? (A maid? Hey, now, thats a good idea!!)
Oh great! Frances isnt quite here yet and now we have Ivan to worry about. Better stock up on my OLD ENGLISH WIPES. Im gonna need them!
