Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
NOTE: This review is a continuation of my reviews of this series. If you have not seen any of the volumes or my previous reviews, you risk spoilers by continuing.
The Intro
After the incredible heap of panty shots that I was forced to endure during the first volume of this series, I wasn't really expecting much out of this one... bet you can't imagine what my face looked like after I put this DVD into my player and hit play only to find out that this volume was not only entertaining....... it was even vaguely good!
The Story
Agent Aika has disposed of Hargen but that doesn't mean her fighting days are over. In this volume, the final three episodes are shown to us and Aika has plenty of fighting left to do! Now that Hargen has been disposed of, his ladies are mighty upset with Aika and are out for revenge.
Each episode features a new sinister plot to get research on our heroine and each plan is more evil than the last and come that much closer to succeeding. In the first episode, the entire crew from the company where Aika works decides to take a short vacation on one of the beautiful islands in the area but the villians are waiting, tricking Aika into almost falling for another woman. Trust me, this plot isn't as bad as I made it sound. It's actually rather interesting.
In the second episode, Aika and co. are lured to a remote air force base where Aika is hired to fly a super jet in order to search for an invention that went missing after the incredible disaster of twenty years ago. Before she can fly the jet though, she must undergo a complete physical (and when I say complete I mean.... COMPLETE) done by one of the best fighters of the evil side.
The final episode is the biggest shocker as the villian finally come up with a plan to kill Aika. What's really interesting about this episode is that the episode actaully centers more on the sidekicks like Rion. It was a nice ending to the series and I really didn't expect it.
The Good and the Bad
Like I said, I really wasn't expecting much from this volume and maybe it's because of me going in with such low expectations that I was able to be entertained as much as I was. Sure there is still plenty of pointless fan service but it's actually much lighter in this volume as it focuses much more on a plot that isn't quite so contrived. Sure it is very formulaic but it's still very fun stuff.
The animation quality is good in this volume and I noticed no problems with it what so ever.
Dub vs. Sub
Both the dub and sub track were enjoyable to me though I did notice that the dub track was edited just a bit. Not enough to really matter as all they did was take out some of the more major swearing but it still bugs me whenever a company does this.
Music
The music on this volume is much better! The opening and closing themes were both very well done and I enjoyed listening to them once or twice but after that I found myself skipping them. They were good but not great.
Extras
Sadly the extras on this disc are plentiful but fail to deliver. Japanese Music Video, Japanese Special Trailers, Original Clean Credits and Meet the Characters are all featured.
Overall
I came in with incredibly low expectations and actaully thought I was going to lose more brain cells than I had to spare by watching this but instead I found something entertaining that I couldn't get myself to turn off until it was finished. While you may be slightly lost if you haven't seen the first horrid volume, it shouldn't be too terrible as one of the extras on this volume is a recap of what happened in the first four episodes.
If you like action anime with plenty of gratuitous nudity and panty shots, check this one out! 3 stars from me.
