Opinion Summary
Safety Remains Biggest Draw For Volvo's Middle-Of-The-Road S60
by drive571 | Sep 07 '04
Pros: Superb front seats, high-quality interior, far more refined than past Volvos.
Cons: Cramped rear seat, uneven turbo power delivery, un-sporting handling and control feel.

Well, she's always bought Volvos because of the safety reputation, and because she likes their image--when you see someone driving a Volvo wagon, you KNOW they're not voting Republican.

Incidentally, though, she's pretty much at the end of her rope with the mechanical problems. Next time around, we think it's going to be a Prius...

As far as the S60 goes, the one I drove was a FWD. Subaru probably didn't want the Volvo sharing its AWD trump card. Did you get to this event too? I don't remember mentioning the Subaru sponsorship in the review, so I wondered how you knew about it. Anyway, thanks for the comments!

Well written review!

I do wonder why your girlfriend remains so loyal to a car make that has been so unreliable. Perhaps she has that "certain weakness"?

Strong review overall. Though I can't help feeling one of us is redundant, our perspectives tend to be so similar. Strangely, I don't recall others noting that Volvo steering is simply different (and not in a good way) than everyone else's.

One glaring omission: I don't think you ever note whether this car was FWD or AWD. Given the Subaru sponsorship, I'm guessing AWD. In which case a manual is not available short of the R.
