OK
I have tried them all from the overrated Terks (all models) to the useful and understated rat shack models. Tried RCA, Jensen, all sorts of rabbit ears, even the TERK 55 indoor/outdoor amplified $99 monster that turned out to be a large piece of crap compared to several of the other indoor brands.
All were tested in the same room using the same equipment. In this case an HDTV Directv tuner by Mitsubishi. The winner hands down was the Zenith model. Admittedly it feels like the least expensive of the many models I tried as you would swear it was all plastic judging by the weight. Lo and behold somebody apparently actually engineered the elements to maximize the reception of digital channels.
This baby pulls in stations some 30 miles away. Most of the other HDTV capable antennas did not bring in anything beyond 10 miles including the Terk 55 regardless of orientation.
Kudos to Zenith as otherwise I would be stuck with a large directional on my roof.
Do not waste your money or time with other indoor antennas. This is as good as it gets for now.
Here is my wish list in case there is a Lucky Goldstar rep in the audience.
The Zenith Silver is quite small. I would be happy with an antenna three times as large if it could further improve reception of weak signals.
Why not design it so it can be rotated easily without turning the base?
I also would like to see you throw in an amplifier/filter to better enhance the SNR of weak signals.
How about it huh? Based on the Silver's performance I would happily pay $100 for a version with the above features. Call it the Zenith "Gold"
