Pros:Was free...now it costs more than others.
Cons:Sound quality and delay can be annoying.
The Bottom Line: Dialpad is a great way to call people, if you don't mind a little echo and a lot of delay.
I have been using various "free" internet, long distance providers for a few years. Dialpad was one of the first and seems to be one of the few that still allow unlimited calling. Many others now limit your calls to 2 or 5 minutes. Here's the skinny on Dialpad. True...it is free, it is easy to use, the address book makes calling even easier, the pop-up ads are the price you pay for free calling. It is also true that VoIP calling, Voice over internet calling, has its limitations. You will have to deal with echo, unless you get a set of headsets or turn your speaker volume down. You will have to deal with "packet delay". The internet send data in "packets" or bursts of data. That means, your voice may arrive in dribs and drabs. You may find some people who don't like the stacatto sound Dialpad sometimes provides. But in the last few years, I have saved HUNDREDS of dollars, by using Dialpad, Net2phone, and others. My long distance bill has been the minimum for service, plus taxes for about 8 months. MCI likely doesn't like me as a customers, but, I keep them around, for emergencies. Bottom line, Dialpad is a good way to stay in touch with people, talk up a storm and not worry about costs. It is not a replacement for your normal long distance service.
