| cleo43's Full Review: Courtyard Marriott Amsterdam Airport |
Although its publicity states this hotel is only 10 minutes from the airport, that is completely false. This hotel is located in the bloody middle of nowhere, on the edge of a rural highway and far away from the airport and even farther away from the City. You can wait an hour or so at Schiphol for their "once-in-a-blue-moon" shuttle bus to appear, only to discover that you were meant to have some kind of "voucher" to actually ride in it. Once at the hotel, you'll find no bellhop service and endless confusion on the part of the staff about seemingly everything from reservation status to menus. Everything is a lie here. There is no courtyard. (None that I could see.) The nearby "lake where you can watch the sun set" is a very long trek away. The "trendy restaurants and Party World" next door is actually a bowling alley with 3 theme restaurants. How successful this roadhouse might be, I have no idea. It wasn't open when I was there. The hotel room itself was pleasant, clean, and offered the usual conveniences of an American style hotel, as well it should at baseline 220 Euros per double room, meals not included. The brochure states that the hotel has meeting rooms and conference facilities although why a company would choose to hold a business event in that remote location is somewhat bewildering to me. A "hamburger" is 12 Euros in the hotel dining room - the cheapest thing on the menu. Oh, and that shuttle bus back to the airport in the morning? You have to pay an extra 5 and a half euros for that. It's only free going TO the hotel, not returning. That's IF you remembered that voucher thing again. Forget to reserve, and you're in for a 25 euro taxicab journey back to the airport. There are a large number of travellers hotels located right across from Schiphol. Even if they're more expensive, they'll be cheaper at the price than this desolate, surly Marriott.
