Pros:Great location, clean rooms, quiet little town and hotel.
Cons:~none~
The Bottom Line: Well worth taking the drive to northern Michigan to stay in this friendly little town at Motel 6.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Motel 6 in the lovely Mackinaw City, Michigan.

It's located at 206 Nicolet St. in Mackinaw City, Michigan. This is at the northern-most part of Michigan. We arrived a little earlier than we normally would and took advantage again, of exploring the area. I'm glad we did because it is a charming town.

Since it was quite warm, we decided to cool off in the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi spa. Our rooms were located on the end of one wing. Once again we parked right outside and were able to enter from the exterior hallway. We splurged this time and got the boys their own separate adjoining room. The rates were a bit higher, being that Mackinaw City has a high tourist population in the summer. During the months December until April 30, the entire town practically shuts down due to the heavy snow and cold winter weather, as does this Motel 6 in Mackinaw City. We paid $45.99 for each room minus a 10% AARP rate because my husband is over 50! (A nice perk!) The check-in lady was very sweet and helpful. Our check-in went smoothly and without incident.

After our refreshingly cool swim, we all cleaned up in the shower and jumped in the car to find a place for dinner. We didn't have to drive very far, but soon found a nice little seafood diner that served fresh fish. It was a pleasant dining experience. The ambiance was homey and our waitress was friendly. Lake Huron and Lake Michigan were visible from our table as was a direct view of the huge Mighty Mac Suspension Bridge. What an amazing view!

Our fish dinner filled us up to our satisfaction and we drove back to our Motel 6. Since it was still early (or so I thought) we decided to take a walk in the other direction. One of the things I had temporarily forgotten was the fact that we were much further north than I was used to. It was still very bright (in June) at 9:00 pm. I like having those extra daylight hours! From there, it wasn't 5-10 minutes that we found ourselves in a nice shopping area. Lots of people were milling about, browsing and eating ice cream cones. There were plenty of shops with souvenirs and a movie theater also.

Back in our rooms, the beds felt extra comfortable that night! Maybe that was due to the long day, full stomachs, swimming and walking. The decor struck me as a bit more on the cozy side than is usually common at Motel 6 Motels. Both rooms had a couple of small lamps placed around on the dresser and night table, rather than just the mounted wall types of lamps. The floral bedspreads were a nice change as well. We kept our adjoining door open between rooms and I'm sure that added to the extra large feeling rather than the four of us being cramped into one room.

The bath area was fairly standard having the basin separate from the toilet and shower/tub. The water pressure was decent and as always, we had plenty of towels. I would have preferred the bath towels to be a bit larger, but there were fluffy enough at least. Of course, we remembered to bring along our own shampoo, but the little bars of soap were included in the price of our rooms.

All in all, we had an enjoyable time here and a good night's rest. It is a great location too to just about everything in the area.

Free HBO and ESPN and many other television channels. (We watched mostly CNN Headline News that night.)

Locals calls are free and voice-mail is available as well.

Free morning coffee is available in the lobby, as it is in most, if not all, Motel 6's.

Handicapped rooms are available.
