Pros: Superb picture & sound, great service, and of course...NFL SUNDAY TICKET!!!
Cons: Can be expensive for premium packages
The Bottom Line: If you want better than what cable offers, and a much lower price, this is the best of the best. DirecTV and Hughes...the only way to go!

| Vikesfan80's Full Review: Hughes Networks D1131 Single LNB DIRECTV System |
I recently decided it was time to dump cable, as I was so tired of dealing with our local service provider (Cox Cable), as the service I received was AWFUL, and there were ALWAYS technical problems. My parents had DirecTV, and raved about it's performance, choices, and service. So, armed with as much info as I could gather, I purchased the Hughes system.
Being the electronics guru I am...(ok, the electronics version of Tim Taylor is closer to the truth)...I decided to install the system myself. After an hour or so (and about 15 calls to the customer service center), I got it up and running. When I saw the picture that emerged from my television, I knew IMMEDIATELY that I had made the right choice. I had digital cable previous to installing the DirecTV system, and the picture I now had beat digital cable by a mile. Not to mention the price. I now have twice the channels, and pay a fraction of the price for my service. The savings isn't the only advantage to the package, however. I also have MUCH better service, and contrary to things that I have heard and read, I have never had an issue with picture quality, even during the most severe of storms. I am also thrilled with the fact that DirecTV offers NFL Sunday Ticket. Being a Minnesota Vikings fan (and sufferer), I rarely get to see my boys play without shelling out the bucks at a bar. Now, for the price of two weekends at the sports bar, I can have my friends over to watch that, and any other games I choose. This is a terrific deal.
If you decide to get some of the premium packages, including the different movie channels, there is many to choose from, but it will cost you. However, there is tremendous value in that money, as you get many different channels, such as HBO. They offer as much as 8 different HBO channels alone, as well as 3 STARZ channels, 6 SHOWTIME, etc. If you are a movie buff, you will be blown away by how many movies you can have at your fingertips! If you are a sports fan, you will want to get the dish immediately....there is a package for only $10 a month extra, where you can get 25 Fox Sports Net channels, covering most of the country. This is a wonderful choice to make. They also offer all of your local channels for a nominal fee, which saves you the hassle of switching the cable, or using an exterior antenna. I strongly recommend this. Oh, did I mention the digital music channels? There are dozens of channels that offer 100% uninterrupted digital quality music from every genre and decade that you can imagine! This is one of my favorite features.
There are few drawbacks to the Hughes system. It works great, it comes with a great warranty, and is very easy to set-up and use. There is a great parental setting for blocking unwanted channels from your children, as well as many features to speed your channel choice. Over-all, this is the system to get if you want the world at your fingertips, and a war with your spouse for the remote!
