The Bottom Line Yahoo's offers low listing fees, but cannot deliver as many buyers as ebay and is absolutely rife with deadbeat bidders.

Yahoo's auction site could have been as good as ebay's. It had the ability to deliver traffic, a decent interface and the ability to deliver sellers. It had problems with deadbeat bidders and sellers, but those problems could have been solved. If it had decided to focus on solving it's problems and competing with the other major auction sites, Yahoo could have been a major competitor to ebay.
For a while, Yahoo was close to being on the same level as ebay. Even though they had bad bidder problems, they could offer feeless auctions that drew in sellers. Because they were able to draw in sellers, they were able to draw in buyers. Drawing in buyers helped them draw in sellers and the cycle continued, to Yahoo's users' advantage. In addition, it provided a superior feedback system and several superior listing options.
Unfortunately, the people at yahoo decided to focus on profit-making before they secured a strong position within the auction community. They decided to start charging for auctions instead of working on thier problems with deadbeat bidders and crooked sellers. Since then, sellers have moved thier listings to the more-reliable ebay and bidders have been stuck with a lack of good hardware available on auction.
