| p3phill's Full Review: Panasonic PV-DF2004 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo |
I purchased this Panasonic PV-DF2004 20 inch flat screen TV/VCR/DVD Combo unit off of amazon.com (great place to buy) early this year when I decided to upgrade from the RCA TV/VCR I previously had. I'd used Panasonic brand electronics in the past, and since I'd always been pleased with them before, didn't hesitate to go with the 20" flat screen Panasonic TV/DVD/VCR combo unit I have now.
So far, I've been very pleased with this TV/DVD/VCR combo unit. It does everything I need and want it to do almost perfectly.
DVD Player
The DVD player works really well, and plays CD's, CDR(W), DVD-R, and DVD-RAM in addition to your regular DVD. The DVDs play flawlessly everytime. The remote control has all the usual functions found on most standalone DVD units. Very easy to use; simply insert the DVD/CD media, it automatically starts. If in the rare case you were to lose the remote or simply for personal convienence, you can easily access the primary controls (play, stop, pause, skip, forward and reverse) right on the television unit.
Video Cassette(VCR) Player
The 4 head HiFi Omnivision VCR works really well, aside from the fact that operation of it can get noisy at times. The VCR features quick rewind and fast forward, letting you quickly get to where you want on the tape. Though the tracking usually works just fine, it'd be nice if the tracking were a little better. It's also worth noting that you can't copy DVDs to VHS. All things considered, I'd say the VCR works great.
Picture Quality
The flat picture screen produces a high quality display, with generally sharp and clear images. The unit features a digital comb filter that really adds to the picture quality. The flat screen is very effective at minimizing the glare usually found on regular screen television. An especially nice feature is that you have the option of selecting normal, movie or night; placing the television at different brightness levels, based on when and what you're using the television for.
Sound Quality
The sound quality is excellent. The two vertical stereo speakers, in addition to the virtual Surround Sound feature are very effective in providing top quality sound. There are a couple different sound modes on this unit. Included in these sound modes are music, movie, speech, normal, and auto, so its easy to find a mode that best applies to what's being displayed on the television.
Remote Control
The backlit remote control is very straightforward and easy to use. The bottom of the remote control is designed to easily stand upright, which is a convienent and sometimes space saving feature. Programming the VCR is a snap. Though it doesn't come with VCR+ programming, I've found that it's fairly easy to negotiate the various menus to program and change/modify the settings.
Extras
Regarding extra little tidbits that make the tv/dvd/vcr unit even more appealing, there are quite a few. First, the audio/video slots are convienently located in the front of the unit, which means it's easy to plug in video game systems, digital cameras, and camcorders, without having to reach to the back of the unit. Second, there's an FM radio built in, allowing users to listen to their favorite radio stations. Up to 9 stations can be stored into the television, allowing quick access to user's top selections. Third, the alarm clock works really well. The user can set the alarm to wake themselves by DVD, VHS, Radio, Television, or just by the plain alarm.
Conclusion
The picture quality, sound quality, and extra features all add to the appeal of this great TV/VCR/DVD. If I had to do it again, I'd definitely go with the Panasonic PV-DF2004. I highly recommend prospective buyers consider the Panasonic PV-DF2004. If you're in the market for a DVD and/or VCR, in addition to a Television, it's the perfect set. It features most things you in a compact, attractive looking package, all at a great price.
