I just saw a news bit about VASP being in financial trouble with two large maintenance companies claiming that VASP is behind on payments. The Brazilian government also recently grounded 6 of VASP's aircraft for not having appropriate maintenance documentation, which meant cancelling several scheduled flights.
Just a heads-up to anyone flying the friendly Brazilian skies....

I've flown a few myself and as you say they are definitely the best ticket to get around but yes, a bit of confidence is needed that sometimes the average turista doesn't have. (or however that is said in Portuguese!)
