Joysticks are a flyers dream. There are many different types joysticks out on the market today. They range from your general joystick with a couple of buttons to one with many buttons, force feed back and an attached throttle. Each different type of joystick has different uses and is better for different people. But like many other gaming devices the joystick is not good for games beyond flight simulators. New gamers that don't see themselves using a joystick very often should look into getting a basic joystick. There is no reason to go out and spend extra money for features that you will only use once in a while. If you only have a couple of flight simulators and don't intend to buy anymore in the near future then there is no reason to buy a joystick with a bunch of bells and whistles. Other types of joysticks use some form of forced feedback. This is a really neat feature of joysticks and can add a lot to your flying experience. You can expect to pay more for these joysticks so you don't want to find yourself buying it and only using it once. Make sure that you intend to play flight simulators for some time into the future so that you don't waste your money. Many companies also sell a complete flight simulator kit built right into your joystick. Many of these have more than is needed for the average gamer but is great for a flight enthusiast. Throttles for example can add realism to your flying experience. Take and add rudder pedals into the deal and you have the greatest (but sometimes hardest to handle) flying experience you can have in your home. Over the internet the joystick will give you an advantage over the normal keyboard gamer. While they are struggling with their keys you may be able to fly circles around a player. Because of the learning curve associated with a joystick make sure that you play your favorite games offline before joining the online community or they will most likely be flying circles around you. Joysticks may be great for flight simulators, but outside of this genre of games it is actually worthless. The joystick is usable in racing games and first person shooters but really it is worthless in these style games. You leave yourself at a serious disadvantage. Should you go online in these other style of games you will find that any experienced gamer will be able to toy with you, in an experience that you wont enjoy. Make sure you know what you are buying your joystick for and that you are buying the right one for you. It is very easy to buy the wrong one for you and end up wasting a lot of money.  |
