Pros: AT&T Wireless doesn't exist any more
Cons: Their successor is worse (Cingular)
The Bottom Line: While AT&T Wireless doesn't technically exist anymore, the FCC should be ashamed.

12-9-05 - Technically AT&T Wireless hasn't existed for a while now. AT&T and Cingular said they "merged"; in reality if you call Cingular (the "survivor" today) they tell you they "bought" AT&T sold out -- big difference -- and you're really NOT a Cingular customer, only a "former AT&T customer". So you as consumer have no choice who your provider is, and Cingular now is intentionally allowing former AT&T network facilities to deteriorate so coverage has been declining for several months. The forced play here is that you have a choice: pay full boat and watch your service decline (we have 4 phones in a family plan) or "become a REAL Cingular customer" by re-up'ing for 1 year (and have to pay for new phones because the old ones don't work with "Cingular") or re-up'ing for 2 years and getting cheap replacement phones. I filed an FCC Complaint; something's wrong with intentionally allowing your coverage to deteriorate and still charging full price. Anyway, now I hear SBC is merging Cingular into themselves. Who knows what they will do but as far as I'm concerned they're getting my money and treating me like a second class citizen. How federally regulated telecommunications providers get away with handling consumers this way is beyond me. If I could, I'd go back to the pony express.
