The Bottom Line This should help users fly through the jumbled mass of terms when trying to find GTPS programs.

For some reason this category isn't keeping up with the terminology used on web services. So instead of talking about one specific area, this review will include a glossary of popular terms used for the "Get Paid To Surf" programs. Hopefully those who are looking to find a good "GPTS" program will find some helpful hints here when looking at who to sign-up with.

Adbar - See "viewbar"

Aggregate - These are sites dedicated to gathering lists of earnings programs. These sites are not the actual earnings sites themselves (i.e Alladvantage.com, MValue.com) but are a place post, trade and collect referral numbers in any given program. This is one way to get referrals under you in those pyramid scheme programs. The most famous of all sites listed here is (SixFigureIncome.com), and tons more listed here at epinions.

Incentives - Money, points, prizes. When you use a earnings program you are credited with some form f incentive. The reason you sign-up is not to look at advertisements all day for fun, but to receive extra money while doing so. Without some form of incentive, no one would even use these programs.

Earning programs - This is a program based on internet advertising that started over three years ago. The basic function of a earnings program is to deliver ads directly to a user's desktop in exchange for a small portion of money each hour the viewbar is open and used. To earn more per hour, users would refer their friends and family to sign-up under them. This is the main way companies would spread the word. So basically using these programs advertisers could send you information on a viewbar and the user would see great ads and get paid while doing it (i.e Alladvantage.com, Mvalue, Spedia.net, desktopdollars.com, paybar.com)

1. Paid to Search - Some programs would pay you to put a search box on your own web site. Thus, when someone visited your web site and search using your search box, you'd get paid for it. This type of program is still going strong today. Owners of a web site will benefit from this more than an average user. (i.e SearchTraffic.com). There are also web site that are strictly "get paid to search. Instead of using goggle to search you can use this web site and get paid for every site you visit (i.e NetFlip.com).

2. Pay to Shop - Other program pay you to shop online or in stores. They will refund a portion of your expenses or give you points to cash in for prizes. The basic incentive to use these programs are the prizes. Advertisers hope to get more customers if an incentive is present. (i.e MyPoints.cm)

3. Pay to Surf - Just another program giving out cash incentives to users who sign-up and use the viewbar to receive ads on their desktop. I've already explained those above in the earnings programs. Basically these are programs that pay you to watch advertisements.

4. Paid Emails - Another way to advertise by sending it's members emails. Users will receive an email with links to web sites offering products in certain categories. Users will receive a small cash incentive for looking at the web sites emailed to them (i.e SendMoreInfo.com)

Paybar - See "viewbar"

Referral - Someone who signs up under a current user of a program, in which the original member will receive extra incentives for doing so. As a user of a earnings program you will receive extra cash incentives for referring people under them. This widens to users that a company has, and thus pays the referrer extra money for doing so.

Viewbar - This is a small program you download from a "get paid to surf" web site. Using this viewbar you get paid a small amount each hour to view advertisements, via this viewbar. The viewbar takes a small section of your desktop to display ads and information about the particular company. These are the same size and manner used with free ISP's such as NetZero & BlueLight. In order to "get paid to surf" you need to run a viewbar.
