I would check your body shop warranty. Most shops have a lifetime garranty on work today but that may not be the case ten years ago. Depending on if thier was a insurnace company involved they might under-write the warranty if the shop is no longer open. You mentioned that "used" parts were put on your car. Used pars are generally manufacurerer parts such as GM or Ford, that have been taken off another vehicle, same model as yours. This would leave your original warrenty in effect so check to see if rust through has expired yet or not. If after market parts (new parts from other manufacureres, i.e. DC bumper) were used those producers often have lifetime warranties.

Hope this helps

well, I talked to my friend and he said, even more so because of your climate considerations, replace the panels or metalwork. His experience has led him to believe fixes are just that and if you want it done right, replace the effected parts. I agree w/ him, but again, this may not be what you want to hear, sorry I couldn't help more.

THX, in articles like this I try to include names without pushing them too hard since it isn't a product review, but my bias towards Mothers is obvious I know, :)

In fact, I'm going to go wash, deoxidize, and wax my car! Thanks for the tips, and I appreciate the inclusion of recommended brand-names. The choices can sometimes be overwhelming and intimidating.

The car is drives beautifully as I've taken care of it all of these years.

I cannot see paying all of that money on body work.

I sure wish I had a friend who is a specialist in this do it for a fraction of the cost. I plan on keeping the car for at least 3 more years.

I just recently moved to the head of Cape Cod and oceans surround me now so the salt is going to be murder on the passenger side of my car.

Thanks for answering my comment. I really appreciate it.

Thats tough. Rust as a result of a crash event can be very hard to nail down. One of the only things that can reall be done is to coat the areas with a good 3000# or greater epoxy after power sanding and priming. As long as there is oxygen, there will be rust, so enclosing it completely may be the only way. Seriously though, if you plan to keep the car, but don't want to feel like yer driving a junker, you may want consider body work.

The only drawback is at this point is the fact the vehicle IS 12 yrs old. I am not saying this bad, I will have my modified Honda Accord for AT LEAST another 150,000, but at 12 yrs, you may want to weigh the legitimacy of spending $$ on car that old. Its up to you though, but rust never sleeps...

I know this didn't help much, but I'm not a body man, so I'm not sure whats best, I'll see what a builder friend says...

I agree 100% that a car should look nice... I have kept my car looking nice for 12 years but the past 2 years I ahve had rust starting at the bottom of the passenger side due to an acciodent I was in bcak ten years ago (the Chevy place put in used parts)

I don't know how to get rid of this rust without paying big bucks. Would you, by any chance know? Please leave me a comment and thnaks for a well-written helpful review.
