Pros: Duplexing, very fast text and graphics printing with good quality, two feed trays
Cons: Almost too many options to choose from when you print.

X#$^)(*&_^ #!!!

I was perfectly happy with this printer till you pointed this out..... Now I'm going to spend the rest of the time that I own this printer wondering if I can get to print on cds!

Interesting links. Thanks I'd never guessed it was this close to being cd printing capable :)

CD-R Printing Question solved.... (Reply to this comment)
by skagen
I found the answer. This is just one of the commments but there is more at the link. Apparently ONLY the US versions have the CD-direct print feature disabled:

"A lot of people seem to be wondering why the US versions of Canon printers do not have CD printing, yet the European versions do.

The answer (that I read on a website somewhere else) is simply that a previous US patent is blocking Canon's ability to include this feature on it's printers, whilst no such barrier exists in the European marketplace. "

I'm very confused. I see press relases and thread comment (eg below) which say that this IP 3000 does print direct to CD's/DVD's - but you write a very through review that says it doesn't? Please clarify? Is it doing it via the front tray or somethign you didnt explore?

No, you can't print on cd's with the ip3000, there's no way to feed the disks through the printer.

THe R200 has a separate tray for feeding the disks though the printer.

Hi, I am considering buying a printer and two of the printers I am looking at are ones you reviewed: 1) Epson R200 2) Canon IP3000.

I as somewhat leaning to the Canon based on your reviews but I have a quetion about CD printing, which I'd like to have but is not a deal-breaker: do you know if it is possible to print CD's with this printer by getting 3rd party software? Or is there some hardware limitation that prevents it?

Thanks
Skagen

BTW, these two reviews are both great - this one especially!

I'm a pretty big fan of Canon printers also.

Had a Canon BJC 610 for 3 years before the printhead failed. We've owned a Canon F30 multifunction for about 3 years. Had to replace the printhead in the 2nd year, fortunately found one on Ebay for $20. I've since noticed Canon doesn't sell printheads for many models on their site anymore, though some 3rd party authorized repair centers sell them.

Since this $90 printer included about $45 worth of ink cartridges, I won't be out too much if it fails in a couple years, and it will probably make more economic sense to buy a new printer than replace the print head

I love my Canon printers - just that my first one's print head clogged up, and they don't make any more supplies for it anymore (I reviewed it before - it as a 7000 series).

I know own the i900D and love it! There's just something about their inks that seems much richer than HP and Lexmark. Epsons comes awfully close, too, but just don't do it on glossy (but very good on matted paper).

As always, graet review!
