Your review reminded me of when I went to Helena when I was about your daughter's age. We stopped between Billings and Glacier and saw a lot of what you guys looked at I esp. remember the cathedral. Your impressions are very much in line with what I remember thinking.

I've always enjoyed Helena, but I'm sure I could never live there. It's just not an even remotely lively place from what I've witnessed. However, it's still a got a nice atmosphere that's a pleasure to come into once and a while. I also like how things are affordable, with very nice hotel rooms being only $70.
Nice review - it brought back some pleasant images.
