The Bottom Line Once everything gets fixed, this is a great service. But no matter how good something seems, if it doesn't work, it sucks.

One year ago, I signed up for Spedia, a pay to surf service that offers a high payout rate with lots of ways to earn points. I stopped using it for a while because I wasn't getting much. A week or two ago, I reinstated the account (luckly, all the points I earned was still there). However, even with the new promised 150/hour statement, I'm earning much less.
Points
When you earn anything through Spedia, you get points, which are latter converted to dollars when advertisers pay Spedia. Over the last few months, the rate is $.49/hour, or $.0082/point.
The Bar
As with most PTS's, Spedia's main way of earning money is through the ad bar. While surfing the internet, 2 ad's will appear at the bottom of the screen. Also on the bar is a button that appears green, yellow, or red, depending on what you're doing and showing you if you're earning any points. The idea is good, but the are many problems with the ad bar. For one thing, you have to go to a new website every minute to earn points. Although I'm a fast surfer, half the time I don't go that fast, and half the time I still won't accumulate points even when I'm going that fast. Also, you have to be in Internet Explorer or Netscape to earn points. I use AOL (yes I do plan on changing soon), and Spedia doesn't track me surfing because it only looks for those programs. Your home page is also changed when you open the Spedia Bar, something that I find really annoying. And finally, the bar asked for me to download extensions, and all I got was SURF installed. I didn't even bother to look at it much, but one thing that can't be turned off from it is that all basic words are underlined with a link to the defination. Very irritating. I guess that's everything from the bar. I'll update if I find something else wrong.
The Games
The was one of the service's strong points. Spedia offers a variety of games that you can play for ad points. During my first run, I earned hundreds of points a month from your basic games. However, when I began a couple weeks ago, I couldn't earn ad points as much as before, and now I'm NOT GETTING ANYTHING for getting the highest scores possible. I've finished puzzles with no flaws in record time and got nothing from it. And some reason, some games work on one of my computers and some can't be found on the other (I've tried clearing the cache and deleting the cookies on both).
Instant Cash
This is also a major plus, when the actually pay you for it. Basically, you get offered a variety of points for signing up for services and, depending on the amount of points, don't have to do anything or buy something. You can get 500 points from services in which you don't have to do anything. The problem: you have to be logged in, even though they automatically log you out after 30 minutes no matter what you do, use your email address, which isn't really a problem, and after signing up, you usually don't get your points. I've signed up for 20 services and I've only been paid for 8. However, I was shocked to find out that someone signed me up for something that was 1000 points. Bottom line: good when it works.
E-Mails
You get 5-10 points for reading emails that get sent to you. I havn't got any emails yet, so I think I'll just skip it.
Referals
Just like any other PTS site. Refer your friends, and you make a fraction of what they make. Works fine.
The Check
No comment, as I havn't earned enough ($30) for one.
