AGIST PERHAPS? (Reply to this comment)

I don't think that he should have to review old movies. There are a lot of reviews that are ONLY of older movies, and I didn't hear anyone complaining about that.

Age should not be a consideration. I was taken aback by that comment! I think that any opinion is valid regardless what your age is! I have spent a lot of time not being taken seriously because of my age. It could just be preference to enjoy movies that were recently made. There are plenty of lists that I have read that cover other eras of movies, and I suggest reading through them all. It is hard to cover all topics in a general category like this one. And I LOVED Can't Hardly Wait. It was such a sweet movie.

When I saw that Fight Club was number one on your list, I got down on my knees and thanked God that there was another like me. That movie, it kicks, so much, booty. Just everything about it rocks. It's funny, it's violent, it's (semi) thought-provoking, and it's my favorite movie of all-time as well. By the way, do you have the DVD? That is the only way to see it...I'm just so happy!

Chasing Amy? (Reply to this comment)

good movie, but Clerks remains the best. It just rules...
The rest I could mostly complain about. I love fight club, but No1? it's not THAT good. Plus no LA confidential or American Beauty (to hell with the backlash it's great)....
ah well

I also pre-ordered my CTHD DVD, only a week away now & i can't wait. I included Akira on my best sci-fi list, but it's worthy to be on a best movie list. good choices.

Chow Yun Fat over Jennifer Love Hewitt's well...lifeboats. I can see where people can not see that coming but I loved the movie. It's probably because I can identify with so many of them in my real life so well. It's a fun movie, it's a wonder John Hughes didn't do it.

Those are some great movies! In fact, The Matrix is my favorite movie, and Fight Club is worth at least an honorable mention.

Good list! (Reply to this comment)
by computernut
Well, I don't agree with all of them (can't please everyone), but most of them! The Manchurian Candidate! That was the one movie I was forced to watch in History class that was an instant favorite of mine! I've actually only seen it once, but I can still remember all of the plot and some of the dialogue. Gotta get that movie some day...
There's lots of variety to your movie list, which keeps it infinitely interesting. And as to those comments about 1990's-only movies, it seems to me that some kind of cultural evolution happened around that time that allowed so many good movies to come out that broke the norm. Mainly it was just subject material that was previously 'censored', such as bisexual content, graphic violence, acurate historical accounts, etc. I'm sure a lot of 1980's movies and earlier exceptions could be included (not to mention countless foreign films), but add the benefit of modern special effects and better music (I'm sorry but the '80's were disappointing) and you've got more 1990's classics! Besides, try finding DVD versions of so-called classic movies made before 1975! It's d*mn hard!
Um... yeah...

When you gave one of my favorite movies, High Fidelity, an honorable mention spot. However, you did place Almost Famous, another favorite, in a top ten position, so I can forgive you now. Maybe.

One of the most diverse lists I've seen-guess I'll be renting "Can't Hardly Wait" soon (that "or else" thing sounds pretty ominous!)

Well, actually, I was considering putting "the Manchurian Candidate" on honorable mention and also "Brigadoon". I watch tons of movies, I just tend to like newer ones more.

considering the movies you chose, you must be pretty young. Not to say that the ones you chose would only appeal to young people, but what about older movies? Haven't you seen very many older movies or is it you just don't like them?

I think you may have forgotten to close your italics toward the end of this review. Just wanted to let you know since you might not notice on your own.
Your list seems to be very presentist--don't you like any movies that didn't come out earlier than the 1990s besides Goonies? But, to each his or her own list... :)
