The Bottom Line If you are big in to Games and Art design this mouse will put all other mouses to shame
Have you ever been in an intensive game and you have been "mouseflicking" like crazy, and have to take the time out to get your mouse for the other side of the house after you have thrown it off where is sits at? Or, do you hate it when you go off of your pad while trying to draw ? Well, if you have fallen victim to your prone mouse running off course, I have something for you... Logitech Marble Mouse is a great trackball mouse. This little gadget works wonders for applications like photoshop or even such popular games as half life. You see, the design behind this mouse and other trackballs of the same series is the ball. The function of the ball is to move around, ( just like a normal mouse ball but on top ) The main function to using a mouse ball on top is that you don't have to move the mouse at alll. Since the body stays in one place while your fingers do the work. Since the marble ball sits on top and rotates on three ball bearings, maintenance is very simple. First you take the ball out and wipe it with a cloth. Then if the bearings have dirt on them, wipe them down too. The ball is optical,so you may want to keep the cover that the infared sensor is behind clean. Once you are finished, drop the ball back in and you are back in business! The contour of this mouse fits your hand like a glove ( or a ball of Play Dough after you give it a good squeeze ). If you are going to be using this mouse for a long time, The natural hand countour and strategic button placement help keep your hand and wrist from cramping. The thumb fits right on to the left button. The middle finger operates the right mouse button. And your index finger gets job of moving the cursor around the screen. This is the perfect placement of the buttons to fit my hand. One minor problem I have encountered with this trackball is that it only has two buttons. This no longer bothers me though, as I just assigned more actions to my joystick, but that's another story for a rainy day... The Marble Mouse has a six foot long cable and you have the option of which connector you want, PS/2 or USB. The USB i believe it has better performance than the PS/2. In the event that you don't have the USB , the PS/2 is just as good. The PS/2 has one advantage in comparison with the USB; it helps when you are troubleshooting and in safemode. But, USB mice have a higher polling rate, so you get faster response with them. All is not lost though, because you can change the rate of the PS/2 port with a nifty utility called PS2Rate you can get it at (http://www.kittymall.com/PS2Rate/PS2Rate.zip).One other advantage of USB is the enhancedinstallation. There are 2 versions currently available, and I got the PS/2 only one. I am glad to say, that this mouse installed very well into my system. I plugged it in, booted into Windows 98, and in a few seconds it was up and running! (then othere mice) |
