| gdwtch22's Full Review: Disney's Toy Story 2 Activity Center |
This is one of the best children's CD-Roms I have found. I got it for my 6 year old son about four months ago, and he still isn't bored with it. It's fairly easy to install, and if you don't like it, pretty easy to uninstall. There are instructions for both Windows and Macintosh. After you have installed and started the program, it will ask you to sign in and then click go. Once you have it will show you the "TV Room" where Buzz Lightyear and Woody can explain how to choose activities. There are six activities to choose from:
"Cone Chaos" in which you try to hide Buzz, Hamm, Slinky, Mr. Potato Head, and Rex under traffic cones so they don't get hit by cars, fire engines, and trucks. There are lots of obstacles on the road too.
"Toy Shelf Showdown" in which you are Buzz Lightyear and you are trying to build a rocket ship. You have to jump from shelf to shelf, all the while avoiding mean robots and bouncing balls. There are three levels of difficulty.
"Critter Corral" In which you are Woody and you are trying to get all of your critters into the opponent's corral. It's sort of like checkers with about the same rules.
"Luggage Lunacy" in which the object of the game is to save Woody by moving Buzz across luggage that is being loaded onto a plane. There are exploding trunks, collapsing boxes, and suitcases that throw Buzz in all directions. You have 5 tries to win in each game (don't worry you can just push reset to play more)
"Create a Comic Book" This is my son's favorite part. You can select pictures of characters from Toy Story 2 and put them on different backgrounds. You can add text, and sounds to finish the comic. You can save your work and go back to it later too.
"Woody's Printing Press" You can make greeting cards, postcards, posters, and stickers. (of course you have to have sticky back paper for the stickers) On the back of the instruction booklet is a place where you can order paper supplies for Woody's Printing Press.
Also in the back pages of the instruction guide are ways to get customer support. There are phone numbers, internet sites, and fax numbers.
My son really enjoys this game. I like it because no one "dies" while he's playing it. I think this game would probably bore any child older than 7 or 8. It was a little expensive, but my child enjoys playing it (I enjoy the quiet time while he's playing it) and it was definitely worth it.
