| ddeboskey's Full Review: AT&T Mobile Phone Service in San Francisco/San Jos... |
Okay, I have had this service for about one month after years of service with Verizon.
So far, the coverage and call clarity in the San Francisco bay area is pretty good. Not as good as Verizon, but better than I expected. The customer service website is actually quite good, and you can see your bill online easily.
Since it was so easy to see my bill online, I decided to check it out a week ago. I found that they were charging me $0.45 per minute for incoming calls that went to voicemail. So, I called the customer service. Their system is poor, so you need to enter your phone number/ssn/zip code to the automated system and each and every customer service representative that you talk to.
Eventually, they decided that it was a problem with the settings on my phone, so they turned off call forwarding in their system. I was unable to change it directly with my phone for some reason. Anyway, I had to argue with them for another 10 minutes to get them to refund over $12 of these usage charges (incoming calls to voicemail).
So, the current situation is that ALL incoming calls get error messages unless it happens to ring the phone and I happen to be there to answer it. Voicemail does not work at all. So, I have been getting emails all week from people who tried to reach me on my phone and failed.
I have called the customer service three times, spent hours on the phone with these people who have no idea what the problem is, and the problem still is not resolved. Each time I talk to somebody new, I need to explain the problem all over again and give them my phone number, account number, and authentication info. Don't even bother with their e-mail support since they will just send you back a generic (useless) form letter email.
One more thing is that if you accidently push the web browser button on your phone (regardless of if you actually retrieve any meaningful pages), the systems will charge you about $1.
In conclusion, I recommend Verizon due to their much improved service, and better network. They may cost more, but it's worth it if you don't like to carry paperweights.
