Ok, so I see this commercial on TV about this eraser thing that is better than a sponge and takes nasty dirt out of cracks and crevices that most sponges/cleaning agents/products wont.
To my surprise I found them at my local Walmart Superstore for less than $2 for two sponges. I snapped up a box ASAP and brought it home to try. Fell in love with it. Recommended it to friends and family.
So then I get this email saying they have a new, better product and do I want a free sample? SURE! Im always up for a free sample!
So the free sample comes in the mail. And it sits on my desk for 6 weeks. Why? Because I live in Florida and 4 major hurricanes blew through our state in those six weeks and frankly the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo got buried under a truckload of paperwork on my desk. Guess what? I found it! After bringing in a front loader, I finally found the bottom of my desk
and the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo.
The Product:
The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo is a rectangular dense sponge-like piece of foam. Most of it is white, but along one side is a ¼ inch blue layer. The white side is soft cleaning pad that acts just like an eraser. It's an innovative cleaning material that gets into grooves where dirt and grime are trapped. You'll be amazed how easily Mr. Clean Magic Eraser breaks up tough dirt, lifting it away from surfaces. And it does all this with just water alone. It's simple and easy to useno fumes, gloves, buckets, or chemicals required. (from the website www.mrclean.com). Just wet it, wring it out like a sponge and start erasing!
The blue side is an absorbent layer that helps you hold on to Mr. Clean Magic Eraser DUO as you clean until the white side is gone. (taken from the same website).
There are also precautions like any other cleaner, although I dont feel like this is a cleaner as in a chemical cleaner. I have no idea how it does what it does, but theres no scent and no chemical involved. Here are the precautions
The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser DUO is a highly effective cleaning tool. Test first on an inconspicuous spot with light pressure to see if surface may scratch or dull. Not recommended for use on surfaces that are polished/glossy, or on brushed, satin, dark, or faux finishes. If using for dishwashing, rinse dishes thoroughly. Do not use with chlorine bleach.
And I can not find anywhere on the website where it tells what this product is made out of.
You can purchase Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and Duos in your local super store and/or grocery store. I picked mine up at Walmart Super Center in a convenient two-eraser pack for under $2.00.
My Experience:
The first time I used my original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser I was stunned. Floored! It really was magic. This thing cleaned stuff that I had no HOPE in cleaning. It clean scuffs off white walls, it cleaned off shoe scuffs off vinyl flooring, it cleaned that grime that builds up in the texture of your refrigerator door handle. It even cleans boogers off my 5 year olds wall (dont ask
). I found myself running all over the house with my quickly dissolving Magic Eraser in hand, trying to find SOMETHING it would not remove. It officially does not remove permanent marker off of flat paint.
It took stains off my counter that bleach would not remove. It got into the groves of the caulking around my sinks that can get grimy and that even bleach would not get rid of. It even took rust stains off my tile in my shower. This thing is the bomb! I will never be without them again.
I even use them in my mural business! I have one tossed in my paint bucket for any probl-o-matic spots on the walls, which Im going to paint. I tell my clients to get one because it can be used to clean up fingerprints and nicked up walls AFTER the mural is on the wall.
Then came the Duo. I understand the company was trying to improve on greatness. And I think thats admirable. Im sure Mr. Clean got lots of emails and letters saying this thing is dissolving in my hand and now I cant hold on to it anymore, but it still has lots of life left in it. Because, as you use the Mr. Clean Eraser, it begins to shrink. It gets smaller. The more you use it, the tinier it gets till it you either cant hold on to it anymore, or you use it into oblivion.
So I understand the reason for having the blue layer. But Im officially denouncing the Duo. I dont like it. I feel that I dont get to use as much of my Eraser as I did without the blue layer.
Yeah, its a pain in the rump to have it dissolve so quickly, but at least I can use it until its no more. But with the blue layer, I just dont think I get to utilize the Eraser fully.
So Im going to give the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo just two stars. In an effort to improve, they greatly reduced the effectiveness of an incredible product. I will NOT be purchasing the duo, but will continue to buy the MORE THAN FIVE STAR Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
