Cons: You get what you pay for and less. Minimum, unenhanced features.

I bought this receiver as a replacement from Directv when I thought my nine year old Sony was about to fail. The price was right -- $30 -- and I was told by the customer service rep. that I would "love" the features. In a nutshell, there are no features on this receiver that my Sony doesn't already have in a more enhanced form. For example, Philips advertises a "picture in guide" which allows you to view programming while you surf through the program guide. My Sony has that feature too with two important differences. First, the Sony "picture in guide" is actually big enough to be viewable; second, the Sony picture changes to show you the program you highlight while surfing the guide -- a pretty neat feature. The Philips picture in guide is so small as to be unviewable and stays on the last channel you were viewing as you surf the guide.
I also found all the captions, banners, program descriptions, etc. just too small to read easily from my living room sofa. I have perfectly good vision but the text provided by the Philips receiver is just too darn small.
And speaking of small -- if you can actually read the print on the remote control buttons without a magnifiying glass then you have Superman's vision. The remote and its buttons are so small that I couldn't hit one button without hitting the one adjacent to it...and I'm not a ham-fisted gal.
Finally, as to cable hookups, the Philips receiver had no more cable hookups than my sony which controls my DVD player and VCR and which still has input/output jacks for speakers if I wanted to them.
So dear reader, I returned it.
