Pros: Good ride, comfortable seats, strong engine
Cons: Transmission clunks badly going into 3rd gear. Known problem.
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't recommend this truck because of the known transmission problems and Chevy's refusal to fix them.

A good truck except for the transmission and some minor fit and finish problems. The Chevy LS comes standard with some very nice features. The ride is relatively quiet for a truck, and the 4.8l V8 engine is strong and can tow small trailers with ease.
The side and rear-view mirrors provide good coverage to the rear. The bed of the pickup has plenty of tie-down locations to secure cargo.
The main problem I have with this truck is the transmission. There is a known problem for which GM has released a bulletin that describes a clunk when shifting from 2 to 3 or 4 to 3. This clunk can be particularly bad and could lead to a premature failure of the transmission given the metal clanking that occurs and the occasional shuddering that it puts the truck through. GM refuses to fix this problem, although the company acknowledges the problem in several light-duty trucks where this transmission is used. This problem is also present in the Hummer 2, where the bulletin describes it as being "even worse." (Chevy's words, not mine.)
Chevy's refusal to repair this problem has caused me to reconsider purchases from GM in the future. At one dealership in Eugene, OR, alone, over 70 trucks exhibited this problem, according to a shop foreman.
