| disartain's Full Review: Cheer ColorGuard Laundry Detergent |
Okay, Okay, for years I have been using Gain washing powder and I love the scent and the way it washes my clothes. Now you are asking why I am writing a review on Cheer Color Guard detergent well Ill tell you.
It all started when mother came to live with us after having a stroke. She was still working at 75 and had the stroke at work. She was very determined that she was going back to work and didnt want to live in SC at all, she is from Georgia we were on a roll to start with and it was an uphill battle all the way.
The second day she was here I was going to wash her clothes and was told in no uncertain terms that she only used Cheer no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I use Gain I told her gently. I am allergic to everything but Cheer was her reply and the other detergents ruin your clothes. I knew that she wanted to have some control since her whole life was turned upside down so I gave in and sent my husband to the store for the Cheer.
I have known for years that Cheer claims to be good in either hot or cold water and that it saves the colors of your clothes, you learn a lot when you watch TV commercials. Now you know one of my secrets. I love the one about the Geico lizard, okay back to the subject at hand. Cheer Color Guard Laundry Detergent
Pros
I was secretly hoping I wouldn't like it, but nothing like that happened.
Cheer comes in many different sizes and liquid or powder. It seems to be ultra as it takes less detergent to wash. Heavily soiled clothes only take ¾ cup. The box I got was the 60-load box. The measuring cup to use comes with the detergent.
It really does work in cold water as well as warm or hot, that was a surprise.
Reading the back of the box, I realized that probably any other detergent would do the same as Cheer. It says that washing colored clothes in cold water helps prevent fading with out compromising cleaning.
The other recommendation on the back of the box are other ways to prevent fading most of them consumers already do using other detergents too.
The color guard formula according to Cheer neutralizes the chlorine in wash water to keep clothes from fading, after reading this on the box I rationalized; it seemed to be a good reason that it would keep clothes from fading.
Cons
It doesnt leave my clothes smelling like Gain. The smell is of clean clothes but no special scent.
The prices are higher normally then the detergent I am used to buying.
My Experience
I grumbled the whole time I was sorting the clothes to wash. I filled the washer and put in ¾ cup of Cheer and then set the washer. When it finished I looked at the clothes and really couldnt tell a difference between the Cheer and my regular detergent. The clothes were clean and not faded but then my clothes have never faded anyway.
I decided that even though Cheer was a few dollars more then my usual detergent that I would keep buying it. It cleans the clothes and it makes my mother happy. I went to the Cheer site and was looking at some of the facts they have there and I did find out something that I didnt know before, powder detergent is supposed to be better at cleaning dirt, mud and clay and liquid detergent is better at cleaning oil and grime. I never knew that and I am still wondering why it is, I thought detergents cleaned everything. I guess I am still naive in some areas.
When I go into the laundry room I look at the pretty blue box of Cheer with the bright primary colors under the logo and think, I miss my GAIN.
Cheer is manufactured by Proctor and Gamble, as are many fine products. The web site for Cheer is http://www.cheer.com.
My recommendation is if your mother lives with you and demands Cheer then buy that brand it wont kill you, although you might grumble a little. Yes, I thought about buying Gain and putting it in the Cheer box but with my luck, she probably is allergic. :}
Thanks for reading
