Short of climbing up loose gravel or ice, no, it isn't used in normal driving. The layout of the shift pattern requires that the driver push the stick in and over to the left to engage "Super Low". Normal 1st gear resides where it usually does.

A very informative review that is a joy to read. Please write more.
I'd forgotten that these had six speeds. I looked it up and, yes, that was the only available transmission. First gear was an ultra-low creeper, kind of like 4L in a 4WD truck, I guess. Do you use it in normal driving?
