Pros: Great looks and compact size. Runs so quietly you'll never know it's there.
Cons: Too small to hold much besides the day's lunch. Won't freeze anything.
The Bottom Line: Nice to have in your office, as long as you recognize its limitations. It's no substitute for a microwave or a freezer, and it doesn't pretend to be one.

| judy_lind's Full Review: Hot+Cold Mini Fridge |
I wanted a mini-fridge for my office because I'm too lazy to haul myself out to the office kitchen every time I want a soda, and the Sharper Image mini-fridge has two things going for it: 1) size and 2) looks. It's small and it looks good. It takes up minimal space on top of my cabinet. When I first got it, it drew lots of second glances and inquiries of "Where'd you get that?" It looks great sitting there all sleek and silver. It's practical uses, however, have distinct limitations.
The Hot+Cold Mini Fridge is not, repeat, not a freezer. Don't try to keep a container of your favorite ice cream in it because you'll end up with a big melted mess. Its bottom temperature is 42 degrees, just enough to keep a bottle of juice or soda cold. On the flip side, it warms up to 140 degrees. It's enough to warm up your hero sandwich, but I wouldn't try to heat up a slice of pizza in it. There's nothing worse than lukewarm pizza. That stuff's gotta be hot.
The second limitation is its size. It's small, and I do mean small. Once you put two 20-oz bottles of Snapple into it, there's not much room for anything else. You can easily fit four cans of soda inside it, but I don't like soda in a can anyway; it tastes too metallic to me. If you bring a bottle of soda, a sandwich and a piece of fruit for lunch, it can hold all that easily.
The Hot+Cold Mini Fridge is very easy to put together. Plug in the electric cord and you're in business. Make sure the switch is set to the proper setting, i.e. cold or hot. There's a little light on top of the box that glows red for hot setting and blue for cold, so you won't switch it to the wrong setting by mistake. And it's so quiet you'll never hear a whisper.
So if you're looking for a mini-fridge that will hold your lunch for the morning until you're ready to eat it, or to keep a few containers of juice or soda cold for a while, the Hot+Cold Mini Fridge will do the job. For anything else, haul yourself up out of your chair and head for the kitchen.
