Everyone loves to receive a greeting card on those special occassions like birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentines day. And for sending those cards, everyone knows about Hallmark. They create the cute and/or sentimental cards that people cherish long after the event is over.
The only really bad part to sending a Hallmark card is that you have to go out shopping, find the card, buy the stamps, make sure you have the correct address, and end up licking the icky glue to seal it.
Well, times have changed. Hallmark now brings you the ability to send those same wonderful quality cards for FREE. And not only that, you don't even have to leave your home to do it. That is, as long as you have a computer in your home.
If you go to the Hallmark webpage (www.hallmark.com) you will find a section called E-Cards. This is where you can go to find the perfect cards for those special (and not so special) events.
When you first get to the E-Cards division of Hallmark, you will find a list of the upcoming holidays, as well as a select few e-cards that are recommended for those holidays. Considering today is April Fool's day it was kind of fun to look through some of the foolish cards.
In addition, they have a section for Milestones, like anniversaries, birthdays, babies, weddings, and graduations. In the Just a Note section they have the simpler things, like Just for fun, keep in touch, miss you, and Hi!
The other main category on their front page is Collections. These are those specialty Hallmark cards that everyone recognizes. Like Maxine, that bitter old lady that you will find on a lot of birthday cards. Only now she is animated in Flash! They also have specialty cards called "Click-ems" Send them out to your friend and they click to make things happen on the cards. Check out the one where you get to smash a computer with a hammer!
Surf around through all the different categories and find that perfect card for your best friend, loved one, or acquaintance. Once you have it, click on the picture of it and it shows you a larger view and allows you to personalize it.
Most of the cards I have found allow you to type in up to 500 characters on these cards, so you don't have to worry about running out of room.
Once that is done, make sure you have added their email address and your own information. Then choose which day of the year you want it sent out on. This is a little different than Blue Mountain Cards, with them you can only send it out about a week in advance.
Once done you can choose to preview the card or send it on its way to the recipient. When sent you will receive a notification of when that person finally sees their card. No guessing about whether or not they received it.
So, now that you know how it works ... how about what I think about it. I like the Hallmark e-cards section but it is not as extensive as Blue Mountain when it comes to selection. They also don't have the really strange holidays, like Ugly Truck day. But if I weren't to judge them specifically against Blue Mountain, I'd say they are still a really good site to get your e-cards through.
In addition, they have their own collection of a lot of the cards. You'll never find "Maxine" at one of those other sites.
Anyone who enjoys sending out e-cards should definitely try them out. They are simple to use. The site is set up well. And it's always nice to be able to send Hallmark Greetings without having to lick those icky envelopes and stamps.
