| ginaav's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Color Printer/ Copier/ Scanner - p... |
I recently purchased a brand new Hewlett Packard psc 1315 all-in-one printer on sale at Circuit City for the price of 99.99, regularly priced at 149. The printer is compact and getting it from the store to my home was quick and easy with the suitcase style construction of the box that the printer came in. Once I was home it came time to install.
Installation
Quick and easy. Once it was out of the box, it was a simple matter of following the step by step instructions that came in card in the box. It explained each step with the use of clear and instructions and diagrams. The software itself came with the option of just installing the drivers necessary to run the printer or to install the HP imaging software contained on the disc. Compact Discs for both Windows and Macintosh users were included in the packaging. The only thing needed that was not included was a standard USB wire to connect the printer to your computer.
The software took about an hour to install if you choose to install the imaging software as I did. This install needs about a gigabyte of hard drive space. If space is an issue, the driver install only requires approximately one hundred megabytes.
Features
This all in one does everything necessary, minus faxing, that a person could need for personal or small business use. It scans, copies and printers easily and efficiently with the help of HP Director which rests in your system tray until you're ready to use. However, you don't need to run HP director to print from your applications. It is as simple as a few mouse clicks, and your document is sent to the printer.
Printing is quiet and clean. The documents are easily readable, and come out quickly. The sheet feed is front loading, and the pages come out directly on top of the other paper waiting to be fed and used in the machine. This printer is dual cartridge, which makes it easy to print documents that contain both black and white and color in them.
Scanning was also quite simple. Just open up HP director and select the type of material you wish to scan. When HP Director is running, their is some noticeable slowing on my 128mb memory machine, but those with more memory should not find this problem.
Another feature of this printer is that of its photo printing capability. It comes with ports to connect to a photo memory card. Working and printing your photos looks quick and easy. Although I have not yet used this feature myself because I do not have a photo memory card.
The printer itself is gray in color and is compact. The paper is fed through the front, with the scanner/copier portion being on top. The buttons are clearly labeled and easy to use, located on the very left hand side of the printer. The connections for the photo card features are also located on the front and to the left of the paper feeder.
My thoughts
I think this printer is definitely worth the money. For my one hundred dollar investment in this product I've been satisfied so far. With the purchase of a service plan through the retailer, I foresee myself using this printer for a long time. It came with detailed and easy to use instructions with a manual that covers every possible question and explanations for every feature the printer does have. It is compact, fitting easily on the top shelf of my book shelf. Print cartridges are inexpensive compared to others on the market, so when it comes time to refill your ink cartridges it won't break your bank. Black ink cartridges costing 17.99 to 19.99 at Circuit City where this printer was purchased. I would highly recommend the purchase of this printer to anyone looking for a printer.
