This is actually a review of Kenwood's HTB-553 home theater system. The only difference between the 503 and the 553 is the receiver. The 503 has the VR-407 receiver and the 553 has the VR-409 receiver. They have the exact same speakers.
This is an excellent system, it does Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby ProLogic, and DTS. It sends 100 watts of power to each speaker for excellent sound and clarity.
The setting of the speakers and wiring was all very straight forward and easy. The setup on the receiver was pretty simple, also. The difficult part is getting the remote to do what you want it to. Then what do you expect from a remote that has it's own forty page manual. It's a bit complicated and I've been able to do only the more simple tasks. It does have the ability to execute macros, which is nice, since I have been able it have it turn the TV, receiver, and DVD player with only two button pushes.
All in all, I would highly recommend this system if you are looking for a high quality, low cost out of the box system.
