Great Motherboard for the price

Written: Nov 02 '04
Pros:Feature set and price
Cons:Limited IDE drive support and PCI slots

I just built a new home computer and used this motherboard. The chipset, price, on-board gigabit ethernet NIC, on-board 7.1 sound, PCIExpress16 and SATA support are what sold me. Installation was easy after swapping out the rear plate on the case to fit the motherboard's rear components. All necessary cables were supplied, but if you have a full tower case, you may need a longer IDE or Floppy cable to get up to the top bays. I used the PCIExpress16 slot for a new video card but haven't found any use yet for the other PCIExpress slots. There's loads of USB ports and on-board firewire.

WARNING: if you need more than 2 legacy PCI slots, or support for more than 2 IDE drives, this is NOT the board for you.

I haven't played with the uGuru overclocking utility yet, but as the system ages, I look forward to using it to wring a bit more life out of the system.
