It is rather hard to choose just 10 of your all-time favorite heavy metal bands but if I was stranded on a desert island with only 10 heavy metal albums, then my list would consist of these bands...starting with the best and working my way down:
1. Type 0 Negative-October Rust. This was an all around excellent album.It came out in 1996 after the release of Bloody Kisses and had deffinitely took a turn for the better.Peter Steele's voice is to die for in this album and the dark rhythmic groove, and its mesmerizing, trancelike quality seems to draw in even the non-listeners of Type 0 Negative. "Functionless art is simply tolerated vandalism" is what is written on the cover of this cd. To me this cd was like my savior. When I had bad days or just wanted to be alone I would pop in some Type 0 and just let my problems float away with the rythm.
2.Slayer-Diabolvs in Musica. Heavy, Heavy, Heavy! "Death's pointed at your head, your mind's on the trigger pull it"....is just some of the raging lyrics of Slayer. This album came out in 1998 and has yet been the best of all! With the raw vocals and the speed/thrash metal edge, Slayer has got it together hardcore!Whenever I was going out parting, I would throw in some SLAYER and let the rage get me pumped!
3.Pantera-Vulgar Display of Power. This album's title deffinitely explains the music....It's all about power! "We've got no time to lose, your news is old news. Hate this, Hate me, hate this, Right approach for the wrong. It's time to spread the word, let the voice be heard. All of us, One of us, All of us. Dominate and take the mother f*ckin world"....lyrics from the hit "Rise". This album was released in 1992.I would have to say that in 96' when the Official Live cd came out I was pretty impressed, I still chose this album though.Many of the songs on this album are instant hardcore classics and may still be playing years from now. Check out "F*cking Hostile", "This love", and "Rise."When I first bought this cd, I would listen to it over and over becuase the words were just so intense that I couldn't get enough of it. That is why the members or Pantera are such good musicians.
4.Mudvayne-L.D. 50. The title is defined as Lethal Dosage 50, which represents how much of a chemical it takes to kill 50 out of 100 test subjects.I've got one word that describes this band...WOW! This album was released in 2000. They came out with the most explosive performances that anyone has witnessed at live concerts ever!With Kud's superb chorus lines that are as catchy as they are violent, Mudvayne will continue to jam for years to come.This was one of my favorite cd's of all time!It was so heavy yet when Kud was screaming out the lyrics,it sounded meaningful.
5. AC/DC-Back in Black.Some may have different views on if AC/DC is considered a metal band or a rock band but they are going on my list.You have to give AC/DC credit for just being around this long and still kicking it strong. There Back in Black album, which was released in the early 80's, was a deffinite hit! Everyone fell in love with the famous song "You Shook Me All Night Long" as well as many others on this album.AC/DC's guitar shredding talent and sharp vocals is what keeps them going strong. Some other songs to check out on this album are "Let me put my love into you" and "Back in Black." I remember the first time I threw AC/DC into the cd player...My dad had been sittin there and I didn't know what to think when he actually asked me to turn it up.AC/DC have been around for years and will be around for more years to come!
6. Ozzy Osbourne-Ozzman Cometh.The ultimate master of hard rock/heavy metal and will remain so forever and ever!All of Ozzy's albums were great but this one had most of my favorite tracks on it.Ever since Ozzy left Black Sabbath in 1978, he has been making platinum-plus solo albums that rock.Ozzy=Pure genius....Some tracks to listent to on this cd are "Good-bye to romance", "No more tears", and "Shot in the dark".Ozzy is a God!
7.Metallica-Re~Load.Metallica...like an open cannon ready to be fired...again!"Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!" This album was released in 1997 after Load and contained some of the same hit tracks. Metallica, like AC/DC, has been around for many years. Even though Metallica has been stamped with the title of "Sell Outs" they continue to play their hearts out. Long live Metallica!
8.Staind-Break the Cycle. Alright, I know what you are thinking."This isn't a metal band!" Well I'm sorry but it's on my list.I hadn't really started listening to Staind until just recently but I instantly fell into this deep trance when I listened to their songs.Aaron Lewis's powerful yet hard lyrics rip through your head and stay planted firmly there! "When You Bring me to my knee.And all this time that i can beg you please. And all these times that I've felt insecure. And I leave my burdens at the door."......from the track "Outside".Badass band with solid lyrics.
9.Type 0 Negative-World Coming Down.I hate to put the same artist on this list twice, but it's one I can't live without! This album being released in 1999 after the October Rust cd was truely an excellent album.Most of the tracks on the World Coming Down album were slow,doom-encrusted, and long, which is how the Type 0 fans like it!I did like the Ocotber Rust album better but this one had some catchy songs on it as well.One of the greatest goth metal bands of all time!
10.Danny Hepler-The Bum Band. Alright. I'm sure that you are all wondering who this is. The truth...they aren't famous yet! They are a punk rock band still in high school but kickin it into gear. This band consists of Danny-bass, Bum-drums, and Chance-vocals and guitar.Some of the songs that they play consist of lyrics and music by Green Day, Blink 182, MXPX, Nirvana, and Blood hound gang. Keep jamming you guys!.....just for Aj.....he is security for the Bum Band!
