12 cents a gallon - no more!

The Bottom Line Better is better! The old saying you get what you pay for is true . It will run smoother and cost less in repairs.

I learned to drive in 1958 at fifteen years old. Boy was I "cool". I got $5.00 a week allowence back in 1960 and it was plenty. I drove to high school in Boston every day and the $5.00 was more than enough for treats and gas for the car. Course back then regular was 12 cents and high test was 15 cents. We didn't have unleaded. In fact it was never heard of.

I did learn that the better gas was better. And have always used the middle gas which is what I call a low premium. My father always said to use it and being the dutiful daughter I did.

It seems to be all that is needed for my little Camry now. I did try regular gas a little while back when I has my Buick. After about three weeks I noticed my car was idleing rough. At every light I would have to give it a little gas to keep it from stalling. I had never had this problem and told my husband. He in his infinate "Papa knows everything" wisdom asked me what I was using for gas. I told him and he said throw in a tank of high test then go back to the middle road premium. I did as he said and voila no more rough idle. I'm sure the gas made the difference because I never had another problem.

Can you use regular? Sure. Will you have problems? I believe you will. Whether it be rough idle or something else. To me the couple of extra dimes is worth it. The mileage seems to be better so you get more for your money with the higher grade.

I do have one concern about the cost. I see the huge increases and I'm sure it has to do with some inane thing like boat shortages but why does the price of gas go up when it's still in the ground at the gas station?
