So the new coolest thing these days is Overstock.com, "designer names at closeout prices". I admit it I hopped on the bandwagon and did see some good deals. Their site was fairly easy to navigate through as was the check out process. I do have to say their shipping rates are very reasonable. They advertise $2.95 shipping even for larger items like beds, and exercise equipment, "media" items are subject to other rates, usually less or close to the $2.95.
I Ordered 2 DVDs and a knife block set from Overstock.com, I was ever so excited for the package to arrive in the mail. It took the standard 7-10 business days before it made a grand appearance on my doorstep. The box had seen better days but it made the journey safely and in one piece. Before it came in the mail I found this website and was reading the reviews. My heart sank and I had a feeling of dread when I saw all of the negative reviews and what they entailed. The thing that really got to me was the knife set that I purchased had a very poor review written about it by someone else. So I was bitting my nails with dozens of scenarios running around in my head until my packages actually arrived. After all these were to be Christmas presents.
Aprox. 6 months after the knife set came things started going wrong. The scissors and honing rod were another brand and fit very loosely in the allocated slots. The scissors broke. And the honing rod (of poor sharpening quality) broke off at the handle when setting it down on the counter. The knives themselves still cut but the metal is so cheap that they require to much upkeep to even make it worth using. It really is worth it to invest in a good quality knife set, I have one wusthof knife which I love! Henkles knives are also very nice as well.
Thankfully I didn't ever deal with the customer service but from what I hear it can be a bear. With all the commercials on TV for this company they are trying to pull it together, lets hope so. I will definitely say they are in need of a serious "O"verhaul, afterall isnt is "all about the O"?
With this new information about poor shipping standards, poor product quality and poor customer service/returns, I can almost be certain I will never order another thing from this website!
I would not recommend this website to any one. There is something seriously wrong with this company, I think there are other web sites you can get these same items from, and even cheaper prices, try Bizrate.com
