I've joined Epinions last month in hope my two cents will help people make better buying decisions. I had no idea I could earn money this way too (quite a bit of money actually)! Your review will certainly stimulate people to write more.
However, reviewers should keep in mind that the main goal of Epinions.com is to help people make informed buying decisions. Don't clutter the space with tons of text hoping people will stumble upon your review and bring you a cent. If there already are 100 reviews for a product, you really don't need to elaborate and repeat information - just write an express review and rate it!

I joined yesterday and wrote two reviews and also made a comment on someone's review. (When you love to write you're compulsive, what can I say.) But I was looking for more information on how this thing worked and you have answered some of my questions. I was surprised that you could make money doing this! I joined only recently because I have bought several products based on comments from this website. The $$$ to be earned on this site is just gravy because the advice has been invaluable.
I'd been feeling a bit lost but your post definately pulled me from the fog. Now if I could only figure out why I have no hits listed in my profile despite the fact that members have been viewing my reviews :/

As a Newbie (almost an hour old now), I was looking for a quick FAQ resource. Because I'm using a dial-up ISP and I'm in the boonies where the transmission speed rarely exceeds 26.4, everything I do on the 'net is very slow. Also I don't have alot of time and I suspect most visitors to this website are short on time as well. AND I'm a skim-reader...."Just give me the facts, M'am, and give them to me FAST".
KCFemme facilitated that goal by using many short paragraphs without extraneous words. (Skimmers look for key words ). Also she answered my main question (are we talking about pennies or dollars, as far as income for writers?).
Not that I expected income.........I joined so I could warn other people off a couple of lemons I recently purchased. But then I chanced upon some hate-mail from members complaining about a change in the compensation plan, and I got curious.
So I might have rated this HR, but it's a 3-yr old piece and times change. Also, I had no idea what joining a "group" had to do with anything, perhaps because all the nuances of membership would have required a much longer piece?
Anyway, I very much appreciated KCFemme's writing style. I see, from reading the "Top Ten Reviews", that long reviews seem to be highly prized here, but I would argue that "size does matter!" I prefer short.

I just joined- found this site by looking for info on an author. I'm unsure how it works with yahoo groups- Do we send our reviews on topics here to the groups? Or just direct group members to come here. I have a reading group on yahoo which you can find listed on my profile.

I know this review is rather old now, but as a "newbie" here, I find each day that there is just more to learn and less time I have to do the extreme amount of reading that I need to learn all this new stuff (wow, when I joined, I thought I'd just write and rate reviews...I had no idea how involved it can get if you truly want to be honest and fair and do it correctly). Anyway, my point being that I have to be very picky about what I read on a daily basis with my limited amount of time and although this review was very well written and easy to understand, I was disappointed about an out-of-date section, which is the penny per hit income. I read that this is not done anymore, and even though this review was written awhile ago, newbies are still finding it (as did I), so it makes the whole review out of date. So, in the end, it was only helpful.

Motivating. Thank you. I am not in this for the cash, (heck... it takes me a week just to write one epinion if I am lucky!), but the older I get the more enjoyable helping others becomes. It's a little frustrating at times because some of the things I would like to write about that I feel would be helpful to others I can not find a place to post. As an example I use a wireless paging system to notify personnel in a loud working area where they are needed. I purchase coffee from an on-line store that seems much better than any of the stores listed on this site... and so on. It nice to have someone like you write a epinion like this, and to remember that this is a community where everyone involves wins by the learning from others. Thanks again, Curtis
