Bait and switch is alive and well

Instead of applying online - with all our personal info, we asked for a referral program... they gave us 4 names for lenders who could meet our needs. At one (Catholic Home Mortgage) - bait and switch was the policy - they just outright did not meet their stated policy of "fair and honest treatment" or some such nonsense.. pulled a bait and switch with us after quoting a very low rate - under the comment that "Federal guidelines require us to raise your rate as you are buying the new house from a relative" (talk about a stretch - make that tear in logic) .. further checking revealed that there is, of course, no such regulation.. made no sense at the time... makes even less sense from a firm that advertises "fair and honest" as their theme. Even worse.. this firm wasted days of our time - kept promissing to put the original quote in writing m - never did!
At the next "bank" they sent us to.. the guy was so stoned/drunk he could not get it through his head we were buying a new house and needed a rate from him... he was very busy telling us that they could find us the right bank... not quote us ... just find us the right bank (obviously he did not feel his "bank" was right) - Lending tree did not even realize they had another "broker" signed up with them...
All in all - they spend a ton of money on advertising that they can save you money... and fail miserably - our national bank approved a favorable rate (full 1/4 point under the "new" rate from Catholic Home Mortgage) - in a very short time - without worrying about "who" we bought the house from .... but that of course is just one mans opinion.
