A four door sedan that is a blast to drive!

Pros: Power, handling, and room
Cons: Ergonomics, dash reflects on the windshield
The Bottom Line: Incredible value as a sports car or family car.

We recently purchased an I35 and received a G35 as a loaner while it was being serviced. Although they are similarly priced vehicles with essentially the same engine, these are totally different cars. My wife hated it - I loved it.

Mind you, I don't regret purchasing the I35 and would do it again. We needed a vehicle that would be driven year-round by my wife. The I35 has more features, it is front wheel drive, and it is a few thousand dollars less, so it was the logical decision.

But if I had both in my driveway, forget logic, I'm driving the G35!

Let me start of with some of the issues I had with the G35. At night, the dash reflects on the windshield and it is a little distracting. The steering wheel controls for the radio were not very convenient to use. The power seat controls are positioned on the right hand side of the seat just waiting for a drink to be spilled on them. There was no memory seating (although it is available as an option). The power window controls are little inconvenient to get to, although if I had the car longer I would probably get used to it. I'm also not a fan of the amber lighting on the dash, but that's just a personal preference. Overall, I just found the G35 to be a little ergonomically lacking. (Although many of these issues seem to be addressed in the 2005s)

That being said, I would not hesitate to buy one.

Driving the car, I could not believe I was in a four door sedan. And I'm not talking some 3 series BMW with a useless back seat. This is a real four door sedan that can comfortably seat adults in the back seat. But the power and handling is incredible. My I35 doesn't even compare.

The power from the V6 was smooth with lots of low end muscle. The five speed automatic shifted very well, in fact, I think it shifts better under power than it does just cruising along.

It handles terrific but without a harsh ride. It soaks up bumps much better than my I35, but still stays level and controlled through the turns.

Did I mention it has four doors and a real back seat? I bring it up again because the ride is so fun you'll forget you can take three or four friends at once to show them how fun it is. The only comparable cars (BMW 3 series, Lexus IS300, Audi S4) are much smaller and priced much higher.

This is not a perfect car. But if you are a car enthusiast and want to stay under $30 grand, you really should check out the G35 - whether you need comfortable seating for four or not.
