| Mimi369's Full Review: Mr. Clean MagicReach Starter Kit |
I couldn't think of any better way to spend the day after Thanksgiving than cleaning the bathroom! In fact, it gave me the opportunity to try out a new, soon to be released product that I received a few weeks ago. The Mr. Clean MagicReach is distributed by Procter & Gamble, Inc., a highly reputable company known for its top quality products.
I had heard quite a bit about this new innovative bathroom cleaning tool, mostly mixed reviews. Consequently, I was very excited to test this thing out. Enlisting the aid of my teenage son, we embarked on a new cleaning experience, courtesy of Mr David Binkowski of Hass MS&L. I agreed to test out this starter kit and share with him and others my unbiased opinion.
I had my son to open the small compact box that bears the beautiful icon of the smiling, bald and muscle bound, Mr Clean. Having used Mr. Clean products for most of my life, I felt fully confident that I would love this new product that is due to hit store shelves early next year. This is what my son and I observed using the Mr. Clean MagicReach bathroom cleaning system.
~ Assembly ~
The package contained several parts which needed some tool-less assembling. This part of the job I delegated to my son, who snapped the three parts of the telescoping pole together in less than two minutes. I was amazed! I then had him to disassemble the pole in order that I could try my hand at putting the pole together. I had it reassembled in three minutes, according to my son's wrist watch. Okay, so he beat me hands down... next!
The package contains four sample disposable cleaning pads; two for floor mopping and two for tub/shower scrubbing. It's interesting to note that these pads are not flushable down the toilet and, ahem, are not meant for personal cleaning use.
Without referring to the photo directions on the back of the box, my son easily attached one of the four cleaning pads onto the flat football shaped base of the pole, which doubles as a handheld cleaning tool. The base is made of durable blue plastic and has a neat handle on the top with a convenient spot for securing the pad onto it. Once the entire tool was assembled, which was a snap I might add, we were ready for the real tests.
~Experience ~ Experience ~ Experience~
Since the MagicReach Scrubbing Tub/Shower pad was the first one attached, this is where we began the cleaning job. I loved the clean and fresh, yet, somewhat perfumy fragrance that wafted up to my nose. My son concurred. Aromatherapy always makes tough cleaning jobs much more fun and exciting! I tend to clean longer and more frequently if a product smells really good. These pads surpassed my hopes that they would not smell like ammonia or released any other horrible cleaner fumes.
Using the pole attachment, I went to town on the three walls of the shower stall. The walls came clean as the lather did its thing. I was impressed. I especially loved the swivel property of the base. Well done, P&G! The only problem that I found with the pointy iron shaped base is that it did not really get deeply into the corners of the shower floor. Therefore, I had to remove the base from the pole, get onto my knees and continue scrubbing the corners.
There was a tiny spot of mildew that was in one corner and I found myself breathless after scrubbing it out. I think that an ordinary scrubber sponge would have done the job much easier, much quicker and with much less effort.
My son completed the remainder of the bathroom cleaning job. He attached the Mopping Floor/Multipurpose pad and easily and beautifully cleaned the tile floor of the bathroom.
When all was said and done, the entire house smelled like the delicious fragrance from the cleaning pads. My husband and granddaughter loved this new "air freshener". I wouldn't mind buying the fragrance in a spray can! (David, are you listening?)
~ Final Thoughts and Recommendations ~
In my opinion, the Mr. Clean MagicReach Starter Kit is a neat gift idea for new homeowners and apartment dwellers who are just getting started. Establised households like mine would probably pass up buying this kit since other bathroom cleaning tools are all ready in place. The Mr. Clean MagicReach was definitely fun and different but not necessarily better than what I have been using.
I would buy starter kits for use as oversized stocking stuffers for holiday gift giving, though. I believe in giving practical gifts for the least amount of money. My two young adult daughters would benefit from starter kits when they move into their new apartments.
I will continue to use my free product, but I will only purchase the replacement shower scrubber pads. The pole is a cool idea and the swiveling head is wonderful for getting into the higher parts of the shower walls. But, I think that my son and I will continue to use the old handy dandy sponge mop for bathroom floor mopping because, according to my son, the mop is "..somewhat more convenient.." than the MagicReach. He found that "..it was more of a hassle than anything else."
