| fryeday's Full Review: Audiovox CDM4000 |
After using my not-so-trusty analog flip-phone for years, my husband and I decided we needed to update our mobile phones. We both needed a phone and we wanted something light-weight, digital and of course, we wanted something with a long battery life. We asked around and shopped around and it seemed like the only brand that people were recommending was Nokia.
After finding the service plan we wanted, we learned that the service provider we had chosen did not supply Nokia phones. However, they were running an advertisement - sign up for service and get the Audiovox CDM-4000 for free. We were very skeptical of this at first, but since it was free and it came with a warranty, we decided to give it a try.
The phone came with the following features:
-Digital/Analog: Dual Mode
-Slim Design - 4.5 oz.
-11 Melody Ringer & 4 Ringtone selections
-Enhanced phone book with 198 Numeric Entry
-Caller ID with Name, Text Messaging, & Voice Mail Notification
-Voice Mail Access Key
-Large, Full Dot Matrix Display
-Memory Alpha Scroll & Search
-Enhanced Speed Dialing
After using the phones for a couple of weeks, we were really surprised at the clarity of the reception. When someone calls me and I am in the car, they can even hear what song is playing on the radio! The dual digital/analog feature is also really great for us because we live out in the country and in some areas, we don't have digital service.
Another feature we both really love is the phone book. You can program someone's name and number so all you have to do is hit a button to dial it. This is really great for my husband who is terrible at remembering numbers. Also, when someone calls you, their name pops up on your screen. This is great for screening calls!
The phone is very slim & lightweight and still has a very long battery life. I can go about three days without charging it. It also alerts you with a series of beeps and a 'Low Battery Warning' before it totally dies.
The most impressive thing about this phone is how tough it is! We have had these phones a little over a year and they have really been put to the test. My husband has really given this phone a beating. He's dropped it, stepped on it, left it in his truck bed and lost it numerous times. He lost it in the woods for a week and when he found it, it still worked. He left it outside on the porch an entire weekend and when we found it, soaking wet, it still worked. I swear this phone won't die!
The only things that I would change about this phone is the fact that it doesn't have a vibrate function and it needs some kind of page function, just in case you 'misplace' it! Also, accessories for this phone are hard to find unless you buy them from the service provider, which can be pretty expensive. This phone also lacks any type of web service or games (if you are interested in those kinds of things).
Overall, I think this phone deserves a lot more credit than it is given. It's not everyday that you find a phone that you can leave out in the rain!
