| naomii's Full Review: Nokia 3210 GSM Cellular Phone |
I take this phone everywhere. It's has revolutionised my life. Being a discerning student on a tight budget,I chose the Nokia 3210 for my new mobile phone, and I couldn't have chosen better.
The Nokia had all the features I wanted, including some I have found invaluable as time has gone on. I've had the phone for a little over three months, and we've become best friends.
Where would I start? Here's a run down of my favourite features.
Predictive Text Input.
This special wee device allows you to type sms (short message service) text messages in half the time. Unlike the old text input, you only press the key with the corresponding letter once and it builds up the word from its comprehensive internal dictionary. I found this a real time-saver, especially in lectures when you need to tell your flatmates to pick up milk without attracting too much negative attention. I practically bought the phone for this. If you can't get used to predictive however, don't despair as it also allows you to switch to traditional.
Phone Book
Large phone book - stores 200 names and allows you to assign special ringtones to people.
Caller Display
Handy. "It's my boss...I'm not here"
Vibrating Battery
I'm not sure if all models come with this but mine sure did and I'm loving it. Again, it allows you to be sneaky in lectures. Having the phone on "vibrate" and turning the ringtones off means you can receive messages discreetly.
Battery Life
An important feature for many people. I found the battery life of the Nokia 3210 excellent. The standby time is well over a week, and talk time seems good too. I haven't talked for over an hour on the phone yet but it certainly lasted the distance so far and the package seems to think talk time is up to 4 hours.
Tip: Every few weeks let your battery fully run out and recharge it again - supposed to "enhance the potential" of the battery.
Internal Aerial
Brilliant. Fits into a jacket pocket reasonably comfortably and doesn't knock around uncomfortably in a bag. Makes it look cool too!
Alarm Clock.
I'm not an early riser. The phone has a Snooze feature that is much appreciated. Works with your phone turned off too allowing you to save battery time.
Screen
Good big screen allows you to navigate easily and ensures crystal-clear display. I noticed one member thought the display took up too much room - well, so does a computer monitor. Personal choice of course, but the large display works really well for me.
Calculator
A basic calculator is good when trying to add up groceries in the supermarket.
Games!!
I'm up to 648 on snake! Very challenging. :)
NaviKey
Damn, this phone is easy to use! Very easy for the beginner, as little confusions as possible. The menu contains animated pictures which are fairly amusing.
Fun Stuff
Being a cool and stylish chick, I found the Nokia fits in great with my lifestyle. Let's get one thing straight: this is a sexy phone. It's sleek and smooth, and the Xpress-on faceplates are a lot of fun: I'm on red at the moment, but I like to go grey once in a while, and orange for those cool autumn days we're having here right now!
There are 38 different ringtones to choose from - something for everyone. A feature I haven't utilised as much as I could have is the brilliant wee composer - compose your own ring tones, save them and hear your muscial brilliance whenever your mum rings. You can also send your completed tones to freinds with compatible phones, allowing them to use them too. The phone differentiates between octave, pitch, allows you to insert rests, tempo, and note duration, so you can be a real Eminem. It's complicated but you can download tunes from the internet. A good site is www.mytones.com/nokia. My only grumble is that you can only have one composed song at a time saved. My current one is "Uncle F***er" from South Park. Brilliance.
I think if you're after some upmarket and seriously handy features, reliable battery performance, good looks and value for money, you should get this phone. I haven't regretted it for a minute.
