I needed a new external hard drive and decided on the Maxtor 250GB "One Touch". I did my usual shopping engine search and found the best price, $218.62, at a place I'd never heard of before eBuyer.
The reviews for eBuyer were all over the map, from angry shoppers who thought they'd been cheated out of advertised bargains to totally satisfied consumers who got their products quickly, cheaply and easily. I decided to ignore the disappointed bargain-hunters, since their situation didn't really match mine, and base my decision on those who made basic purchases of electronics out of eBuyer's inventory.
So I registered with eBuyer, selected my Maxtor 250GB external hard drive, and check-out.
I received an e-mail almost immediately confirming my order (we all like that, right?) The site has a "My Account" section that lets you follow your order from inventory picking through invoicing, which is nice. But it never actually says "Shipped", which I didn't care for. When it's all over it just says "Invoiced". Kind of vague, I think.
Anyways, I did get an e-mail announcing the shipment of my product, but it doesn't provide a UPS tracking number. No biggie, but the nerd in me wanted to know exactly where my shipment was, day-by-day, and when it would be delivered.
Turns out it showed up at my doorstep in two days. The Maxtor was a factory-fresh, shrink-wrapped unit that installed easily and works flawlessly.
So, my overall first experience with eBuyer was a very good one, My only complaints, and they're relatively minor, would be difficulty I sometimes had signing into the site (I sometimes had to keep entering and re-entering my ID and password over and over until I could get in, and I know I entered it correctly each time) and the no UPS tracking number. Minor stuff, but there you have it.
